I will be starting my first year of college in about two weeks and I wanted to know the best way to invest my funds. I practically have no expenses except for day to day food. I have a full ride scholarship to my university which covers my tuition and books.

I will be receiving about 3,500 excess financial aid EACH SEMESTER which basically goes to my pocket. ($2000 of it is pell grant and $1,500 is a federal stafford subsidised loan) the reason I got the loan even though i didnt need it is because i figured i can invest it, along with the pell grant money in a CD or high intrest savings account (since i wont be incurring interest on it until i graduate) My question is how specifically should i invest my money? Should i put it all in a CD? or maybe a HSBC savings account (5.05 % APY) what about mutual funds, stocks, anything else?

I know many will say to invest in all of the above, but how much should i invest in each?

Thanks A Lot!

I tried to apply for 5 jobs last month hoping I could save enough money before school start "August 20". But no one has called me, last time I posted that Im over qualified and I need to "dumb down my application" by not putting too much information about education because they think I would only be working there for the time being. Now its August 3 and no one called, Im going to apply AGAIN today in different places, but IT TAKES A MONTH to get called....... theres no hope, and I cant ask my parents for money. My major is Computer arts in Animation, and Im taking it at Florida Atlantic University, and I need a computer to do it, and there is no lab near my area, and I also dont want to borrow money, if i got not JOB. This is really bad, unless you know a way to get a job that will get you hired immediately, that will truly help. Mcdonalds, Wendies, Video connection,Wallmanrt, Publix, another Mcdonalds, heh I guess they want people with less education

Thankyou for the answer

HELP.

I live in California and my mom (who also lives here) came to me, asking for help...she's in her late 70s and she's always been really bad with money.

I didn't really realize just how bad (she never really let me see; I just knew she was...keeping shuffled up piles of papers in big cardboard boxes, etc.) until she turned over her bills to me to take care of. They were so out of control that she was nearly drowning in debt. Not only that, but she was literally in fear from collectors calling to harass her and mailing her notices.

When I was going through her bills sorting everything out (and what a tangled web she has, I must say), I noticed a letter from Scott Lowery Law Office.

Her credit report doesn't show the creditor, the acct. # or the debt amount...could this be an old debt, & if so, how far back do they go? If it doesn't show up on the CR does she still need to pay it?

I contacted Bud Hibbs but got kind of a hint to ignore it but not a concrete answer.

Correction to the last question... Actually I say husband, but we are not married yet. Honestly we just have never set aside the money and time really. We will someday. However, we do live together and have two girls together. We just moved to texas so we both are submitting new W2's, he has already put down 3 on his. I will start my job in a couple of weeks, what should I put???

Sorry for the previous question, we are just so used to saying we are married b/c it is just simply easier and better excepted.

I'm 21 and I'm almost 2 months into my first real job as an assistant manager at a drug store.
My job is cool except for one thing, there's this clerk that seems to hate all us employees because we're all young enough to be her children. So she tries to command us like if we were her kids. When we tell her waht to do she battles back saying we're not the boss of her. My boss knows about all this but he's powerless to stop her as well. She's older than him too.
Yesterday she decided to started this heated arguement with another clerk. When we tried to ask to not to do it in front of the customers and please take it back it got worse. Then she started screaming that the store would fail without her.
I was wondering, does it bother any of you out there if your boss is young enough to be your child? Or is this just isolated?

I am 17 years old and am currently working at kmart. I want to know how much money do i get taken away for the taxes from my paycheck. I get payed $7.50 per hour and work about 30 to 35 hours every 2 weeks. I also get my paycheck every 2 weeks. Currently I did the math about how many hours I worked in the past 2 weeks and i multiplied the hours by 7.50 and got around $255. When i got my paycheck i got only $206. So how much exactly do i get taken away?...and is there a formula to know exactly how much money i get taken away from the taxes?

Without her permission, a collection agency harassed my wife's parents, threatening legal action against my wife and discussing her debt issues with them. After then being told not to talk to them, they continued to call her parents about it.
We have no recorded conversations or messages, just the testimony of her two parents.
We are now being sued for the credit card debt, could we counter with legal action of our own?

Dad passed away leaving no will. His name only is on title of house. Mom is sole beneficiary.
Paper work has been approved.

How does she get her name on the title? There is still mortgage on the house, so can she even get the title transfer or does she have to do something through the mortgage company? Is it better to pay off the mortgage now for her piece-of-mind?

Please advise.

I work for a family run company. My boss has an extremely mischievous son that he brings to work every Friday. This kid is 17 and acts like he is 5. He makes fun of our mentally handicapped janitor and makes a mess of my office, including today drawing on a picture of my pregnant wife. I am fed up with this kid , all he causes is trouble and makes a mess. How do I handle this kid, I want to hit him.

ok. So im interested in purchasing this house for a very small amount of money and in exchange pay off the owners back taxes on the property and about 8 grand worth of liens from the city. (for not taking care of the property, etc).

I understand that liens have to be payed off before the title is transfered, so can i get it payed off immediately by a creditor and pay for the liens monthly?
