Sort of, but by no means always.
A single taxpayer making $50k a year will pay more in taxes than a married couple with the same total income between them.
A married couple earning $50k each will pay about the same total tax as they would had they remained single.
That said, there are times when getting married can have devestating tax consequences. A prime example would be two single parents each having 2 young children, filing as Head of Household and earning about $20,000 each. They would lose thousands in EIC payments if they were to marry.
There are other situations where being married will result in a higher tax bill, including a retired couple receiving Social Security and having outside income on top of the SS. This concept is frequently referred to as the "Marriage Penalty." Congress has made some headway on this issue but there are still a number of issues to be resolved.

Routinely this is the case. Most of the time a married couple have more expenses and they receive more standard deductions when paying taxes. I am a married taxpayer and worker. I have my pay deducted at a single rate so that we do not have to pay as much in taxes at the end of the year, so I know it is deducted from my payroll check at a higher rate.

Yes singes are taxed more it's like they are being punished. Not fair I know. That's one reason for the new joint union instead of marriage that's starting in different states. They will be treated same as married couples.

Not necessarily, although it's possible. In many situations, it's the same. Under some situations, married people are taxed more.
