I heard several years back that if a store took a charge card they must take it for all amounts. yet I was just shopping at a store and they made me spend over five dollars to use my card. I don't know where to find data on this but would like to file a complaint to have them alter their policy. any ideas?

Ok, I got my credit report on 07-19-07, and there was a charge-off on the Experian credit report that was over seven years expired (From 1999). I saw that there was an inquiry from a debt collection agency on 07-21-07. Then I got a notice from the debt collector that made the inquiry (Dated 07-22-07) saying that I owed on that charge-off and to respond within 30 days or we will assume that the debt is valid and that I owe on it. Finally, on 08-03-07, I checked my credit report again, this time I saw all 3 companies report and the charge-off was NOT on the Experian report anymore but it was on the other 2 reports and it also shows that the debt collector used only Experian to inquire about the debt. My questions are: Does this debt collector have the right to collect on this debt since it got removed from the experian report? How should I respond to the debt collectors notice? How can I have the same record removed from the other 2 reporting agencies?

Thanks,

I am considering selling my home. I bought it about three months ago at a very steep discount but need to move on. (very long story) I understand that if I live in it for a total of 2 years and then sell, I will have no tax liability on the gain. I may need to sell sooner than that.
I need to understand the difference between selling before one year of ownership and after one year of ownership (but before two years)
I've read a few articles on it, but it's still not clear. If I sell before one year of ownership, do I just count the gain as ordinary income? Would it just go on my taxes as "wages" or would I report it somewhere else?
If I sell after one year of ownership (but before two years), is it taxed as a long term capital gain? If so the rate would be 15% or 5%, depending on my tax bracket?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I was promised over and over again by a leasing agent at an apartment complex that I'd be able to move in on a certain date, on the 3rd floor. I followed up and confirmed with her about twice a day for a week, at the same time paid the application fee and hold fee. Two days before I was supposed to move in, she told me that she had no idea when the apartment was available. They refundede me the hold fee back. The gemeral manager would not give me back the application fee because it was stated as non-refundable on the application. However, I never would've applied if I wasn't lied to in the first place. There was no sympathy and she was extremely rude. Do I have any right to get the application fee back?

Want advice from people who have done this. I am looking into starting to flip houses. My husband is a handyman. He works in maintenance and will be taking his HVAC test shortly. So most of the work he can handle. Plus, we have a whole slew of family members that are very well inclined to do the work. Also, we will have at least $100,000 on hand to put into this. Do you think that this is a good idea? What kinds of highs and lows have you experienced in this business? Just any advice would be appreciated...

I work in the administrative world and get so bored with it. When I ask my supervisors to give me something new, they are too busy to train me. Everything just becomes routine where I lose my motivation to give 100%. I have a degree with an emphasis in Accounting. Any new career suggestions? No smart asses or dumb asses please!

I ask this because every other place I've lived has only demanded 30 day notice. Obiviously, the extra $650 would be a big help in my move, but I also don't want to get hit with a law suit for violating my lease.

If using the formula that's on the paper I'm supposed to claim "2"- 1 for being single +1 for being the sole provider.

I then heard I should claim 0 which takes more taxes out now but lowers the chance I'll have to pay taxes in April.

Someone else told me to claim 1 because that way I'll get more back now..

What should I do? I currently have it at 1 and about $400 was taken out of my first check. Thoughts?

If it helps, I just graduated and my loans come back into repayment in December. Is there anyway I can use this to my advantage when it comes to the taxes? I'm also independent so I'm not living my parents.

Thanks!

My neighbor has dug out 5 foot from hillside along our shared driveway...causing me to have exess rain waters onto my carport. He claims he has no money to put in drain on his driveway for water flow, so it comes down to my house. He said the right of way allows him to dig out the hillside. I filled a portion of the hillside back in where most of the water is coming from. Which he is not happy about. Is not the right of way as much mine to do, as it is the neighbor? This matter is in Charlestion, WV. Any lawyers interested.....?
