Unless you have to by law have insurance on the car, then cancel that and do the best you can with the what money you have left. I really hate to run out of everything at the same time. Eating is very important so get some food.

Ask your insurance company to temporarily suspend the insurance on the car. You may even receive a kickback for premiums already paid. The car will still be in their system, so when the car is fixed and ready to drive, a simple phone call will re-activate the insurance.

There is places that you can get help with food and other things. Make a few calls and see what you can come up with before you sell your car. Everyone has some troubles sometimes. There is local churches, The Salvation Army, and other places. Give it a try. Those places are not just for lazy people as some people call them there are there to help everyone.

Food is a necessity, inoperable car dish it away - when one is low on income, priorities become all important. It should always be that way though, but at least for me, in times of financial hardship, that is a time of close reflection and finding out about values, friendships, how I ended there etc.

If the car does not work, why are you paying insurance on it? Unregister it and cancel the insurance.
