We rent now, and we want to buy a house. One of us prefers the new-builds and one prefers the older houses, so which house sounds like a better deal? Consider price, investment, area, etc... They will both cost about the same monthly payment, and are similar distance from work, freeways, airport, downtown, etc

New-build house: On outskirts of town where there's lots of new developing, shopping, etc. We qualify for 1% down, interest-only, least out-of-pocket as possible. No hidden structural surprises, which would be defects covered under warranty. Pick colors/carpets/floorplan, design center, etc.

Older house: Closer to central metropolitan area, so it's near other older structures, and some pockets of crime & crummy apartments. We will be lucky to get in with 3% down, and hope to talk seller into paying closing costs. Not "energy efficient" and this is the desert where the AC bills get up to almost $500 in July/August even though it's only 83 degrees in the house during day.

I recently had a deadbeat tenant in upstate NYS. He left a lot of trash, belongings, etc. and damages exceeding his deposit. My friend and I spent 20 hours moving his belongings. Can I charge him for that when I take him to small claims court? Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

There's this administrative assistant position on a university campus career center. What should I wear for the interview? I'm a male. Do I have to wear a suit? Can I just wear nice dress pants, shirt and a tie instead? And what should I bring? A notebook folder for my resume or a shoulder bag?

If an employee of less than 3 months quits a job without giving a notice, is there a databank that employers can post negative comments to, where other prospective employers can query to find out info? Or is there a way for an employer to post something negative like this (if the employee did nothing illegal, just didn't give notice) to someone's credit report?

My sister signed up for a debt management plan and she received her bill from one of her creditors telling her that she owes them late charges and fees because the payment was made late by the debt management plan company. Will she be sent to the bill collector if she don't pay the late charges or should she just pay the late charges anyway?

Im currently renting, and the owner sucks! He had to hire a new property management team, because the last one they terminated him because of breech of contract(basically for not fixing up things). So...............i just found out that the old contract (lease) has been transferred over but was brought out, meaning the lease is no good.

When new management took over, they said i may have to sign a new lease, but have not did it yet, im trying to move due to a drug house going on right next door to me, im in the process trying to get that handle, anyway.............i was told since the contract was brought out the lease is no good and therefore im not under a contract, IS THIS TRUE, AND SHOULD THE MANAGEMENT LET ME MOVE? AND IF THIS IS TRUE, WHAT CAN I DO IF HE TRIES TO MAKE UP SOMETHING THAT THIS IS NOT TRUE????Please respond with serious and honest responses.

I am considering a move to Dubai very shortly and I was under the impression that if one lives outside the US (or its territories, ie Guam) for 335 days or more per year, they will avoid US income taxes. I have read many differing opinions and the IRS website is difficult to comprehend with 100% certainty. Does anyone know what the actual rules are?

Unfortunately I have allowed a number of small (under $1,500 total) creditor accounts I've had in the last two years to be charged off. I am trying to clean up my credit and am currently on a two year plan. I have current debt also that I'm paying on time. My credit score is low...524. Should I pay current debt first? And how do I handle the charge offs?

I'm 21 + a single mom. I got a Chase credit card 2 years ago with a limit of $300. I used it up, but never went over my limit. I was enrolled in a payment protection plan with the card, I lost my job+called Chase right away, they said everything would be ok. I asked them to cancel it and I'd pay the balance asap. The next month, I get a bill for $380, not $300. I called them+ they clamied that interest, late fees+overdrawn fees would still be added. One thing happened, then another.

They sent it to collections, now claiming the balance is $1,085.04. I get a call today telling me that I frauded Chase+ it's a felony charge. He said if I don't call back by 6pm with $408, he will call district attorney's office + they will issue a warrant for my arrest. I know debt collectors try to scare ppl all the time, but I am worried. I can't find any info online. He said if I had made at least 1 pymnt, this wouldn't have happened. I have 45 mins, no check, no debit or credit, no money at all!
