I recently had a deadbeat tenant in upstate NYS. He left a lot of trash, belongings, etc. and damages exceeding his deposit. My friend and I spent 20 hours moving his belongings. Can I charge him for that when I take him to small claims court? Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Does anyone know how much per hour is acceptable? Thanks for the answers already!

Go ahead and sue him for the time. If it's not allowed, the judge will remove it from the damages.

Yes, you certainly may. Any costs involved with returning a unit to proper rental status can be charged to a former tenant, including clean up, possession removal/storage, and damage repairs.
