I didn't pay on my 2005 taxes the IRS notified me July 20th via mail and asked me to file, I won't be able to file until August 10th and once I've filed I'm going to set up an appointmet to talk with an IRS repensitive. Do you think they will contact me again between this time frame with a more harsh approach?

Re-read the notice that they sent you. It will basically tell you everything that you need to know, when you need to do what, and whom you can contact at the IRS for more information.

You should get that return to the IRS as quickly as possible. Waiting until August 10th is probably not the best way to get started; get it in the mail within the next day or so.

why are u waiting til the 10th to file? if u owe the taxes for 2005 why not just go on and file them and set up a payment arragement with the IRS because the longer u wait the more interest and pentalties they add on..so i suggest u file ASAP. and contact the IRS to set up payment arragements.

The IRS letters usually have a deadline in them for when you have to do whatever they are directing you to do, so check that. It would be unusual for the time allowed to be less than 21 days though.
