I lived in an apartment 10 years ago with a roomate. Before moving it was to our understanding that we paid everything we owed. About 4 to 5 years later the apartment complex began sending me letters saying that my roomate and I owed
$1600 for rent that was upaid. There was actually a judgment placed on my credit report but I was able to dispute it and it was removed. I have been trying to get my credit in order and now everytime I pull my credit I notice that my old apartment complex has checked my credit as well and continues to send me bills that I don't owe but cant prove.

My husband is a Marine and he is trained in Hazmat and is the Hazmat officer of his platoon. He heard that it's a pretty good paying job, and he can get into it allmost anywhere in the country.
Is this true? How much is the starting salary? Where would he need to apply? and would he need additional training?

What all is involved, how fast does the processs take. Also can you slow the process down, in order to sell my house that I am currently in...if not how can I slow it down if they accept my bid. Do you recommend getting the loan through the VA...as a Vendee. I am not a veteran, but somehow I have the option to get a VA loan, is this a good thing? Pros and Cons to this whole thing: buying a foreclosed VA home, and financing throught the VA. What would you recommend, also other suggestions. Also this house has some damage (garage door, half finish room additons, termite, and bath room water damage. ..and they are selling it as is...but it is not too bad of damage and it is in a very nice neighborhood.

It is said that you should get a mortgage in principle before looking for a property. But does it mean that you can get back only to the lender who gave you the mortgage in principle? If you have found your desired house, can you find another lender?

I was interested in maybe taking the class and doing it as an extra, however, I was told that the process goes through a background check as well, and I do not have good credit at all, after going through a seperation issue. I do not know, I am just trying to earn extra income, I know that notary public is not a full time job, I already work a full time job and have two young kids, so I was just inquiring. I do not know what else I can try to do, I am bilingual, speaking Spanish and English fluently(not trying to brag), I just want some advice on extra income and not have to spend too much time away from my kids.

For a $100,000 investment money and 8 to10 year time horizon, is it better to buy 2 houses in Houston (each at 20% down) or a S&P index fund is a better alternative?

The gain from the investmnet will be needed for children's college education after 10 years.

After what happened in the stock market, it makes most people wonder if they can count on the money to grow even in a 8 to10 year period. I know that managing rental investment is no fun but one would make money (at least won't lose principal) over 8-10 year time horizon.

I know there are tons of books that say real estate is the best investment. But is it really? specially for the middle class.

Are there any other investments (passive) ideas to get 8-10 % annual return over a 10 year period?

I currently have these 2 options to chose from. I'm having a hard time to make up my mind, so I wanted to know what other people think.
Job A has an office schedule, Mon thru Fri. The job is in French, so that would allow me to practice the language and do something new. It has a good salary plus benefits.
Job B has a schedule from 2pm to 11pm, must work during weekends (2 days off during the week). Great salary (better than Job A) and I would have a supervisor position (which is good).

I would love to hear from people who earned a degree in economics or any other degree. If you have not, your input is also appreciated.
Basically, I have completed a two year degree in a junior college, and now, I can transfer to a University. I am enthusiastic about the field of economics, but I am concerned I will end up having a degree that is not too practical in the real work environment. Hmm... No offense, but I think some degrees can guarantee better opportunities than others depending on the market. Let's just say I am not sure what I will do after I graduate, and if I will get a job on other field (teaching, finance, accounting, managing), why not study any of THOSE fields instead? Maybe I will not enjoy it much, but I will have a job after all ¿¿¿???

Don't mean to sound harsh... I am just a concerned student who wants to hear from others who have succeded/failed after studying econ.

Thanks!
