You won't be eligible for rehire and they could sue you for breech of contract. Just give them notice to eleviate any headaches.

They can't punish you, per se, but you will look very irresponsible and I assume your workplace will have trouble replacing you with zero notice. It is never a good idea to burn bridges with anyone, especially in an employment situation. When you work a crappy job, it's tempting not to show up, believe me I know. But it isn't fair to treat people, even your boss and coworkers, no matter how bad they may be, with disrespect, and that's what you'd be doing by not showing up. And you can kiss a good professional reference goodbye, so don't bother putting it on your resume.

Depending on your age, maybe nothing. The 'cost' of it is that you could NEVER use that job as a reference - just not showing up leaves a bad 'taste' in employers mouth.

It would be 'rude' to the employees staying (because for the next month, they would have to pick up the work you aren't doing) with short notice.

I wouldn't recommend it - just not the 'right' thing to do.

If you have a contract, it should be spelled out there.

If you have benefits coming to you to the the future, they could hold back. And in a worst case scenario, they could take you to court, or withhold pay.

They may not give you a good review for applying to another job, however they are not suppose to be able to ask how good of a worker you were. they are only allowed to ask if you did work there and what dates.
