Sea shell, sea shell,
Sing a song for me
SIng about the ocean
Tell me about the sea...

"It's lovely!"
Said the shell,
And of course, I had to agree
I watched it as the shell
Described it to me

It's waves crashed against the rock
Powerful, graceful
The sea-foam white as chalk,
Home to the adventurous seagull.

I gazed at the sunset
It was getting quite late
"I'll be back, don't fret,"
I said while heading for my front gate

Stain

Suddenly the tears are back
The tears that I had sent away
So carefully had wrapped them up
I hoped they wouldn't, not today

Today I want to smile and grin
Not cry the tears of pain
yet eventhough I'm happy now
The past is still a stain

Every now and other day
The tears flow irresistably
Have to let them
Let them go
No matter the humility

Tears of pain
Tears of loss
Tears of shattered confidence
Yet I let them
Let them pass
Essential inner influence

Suddenly the tears are back
The tears that I had sent away
So carefully had wrapped them up
But they decided for today

Take me

The first time it happened, I remember the day
I was 15, my best friend was May.
We were always close, our parents divorced,
Nothing we did ever seemed forced.

We were inseperable, in everything we did,
we helped each other when our parents hit the skids.
I guess it was inevitable, we were meant to be.
Just a matter of time, in love don't you see?

Neither of us knew what we were doing,
the feel of her skin, it felt soothing to me.
A little test, here and there, a struggle for a while,
May and I together, on the bed smile upon smile.

Where she is today, I haven't got a clue,
All I know for sure, Is the new girls name was Sue.
May and I remain friends, it is never the same,
never go back, once you've played that game.

"A Poison Tree" by William Blake

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe;
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I water'd it in fears,
Night & morning with my tears;
And I sunned it with my smiles
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright;
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine,

And into my garden stole
When the night had veil'd the pole:
In the morning glad I see
My foe outstretch'd beneath the tree

what exactly does he mean by "till it bore an apple bright / and my foe beheld it shine" (please translate)
also, what does "And into my garden stole
When the night had veil'd the pole" mean?

i also need help analyzing and interpreting the theme...
what is the poem saying about humanity? what does the poet want you to take away from the poem?

i do get the basic idea of the poem and i really like it.

thank you!

Broken Window
[Its basicaly about a young girl who is being abused my her parents. its very sad! please give me your honest opinon.]

She cries in her sleep
The nights are long
And her pain is so deep
Unlike others, she’s fine when alone
She always dreads
When her parents get home

It’s hard to fit in
She tries to hide all the scars on her skin
She goes to sleep with no promise of tomorrow
They all sit back and watch her drownin’ in her sorrow

CHOROUSE
Through the broken window
There’s a light that leads the way
Through the broken window
There’s a light that promises today
Through her tears
A little girl will pray
That her eyes will see the light of day
Once more

She lies to her friends
If she breathes one word
She’ll never breathe again
Her friends all listen but they don’t really hear
They stand there watchin’
But she doesn’t shed a tear

She don’t run or hide
And she knows she may die
She goes to sleep with all her lights on
Can’t even move ‘cause all her strength’s gone

CHOROUSE
Through the broken window
There’s a light that leads the way
Through the broken window
There’s a light that promises today
Through her tears
A little girl will pray
That her eyes will see the light of day
Once more

One night all her screaming stops
It should be over soon
She’s so glad ‘cause now her pain is not and issue
Now she’ll fly out to that light and say,
“World I’ll never miss you”

CHOROUSE
Through the broken window
There’s a light that leads the way
Through the broken window
There’s a light that promises today
Through her tears
A little girl will pray
That her eyes will see the light of day
Once more

Through the broken the broken window
The little girl will pray
For all those little kids
Goin’ through the same
And this little girl keeps watch
As an angle…
Through that broken window

CHOROUSE
Through the broken window
There’s light that leads the way
Through the broken window
There’s a light that promises today
Through her tears
A little girl will pray
That her eyes will see the light of day
Once more

"We named her America"

her head supports the Rushmore
her shoulders support its weight
her love fills Grand Canyons
that will never erode away
the Redwood trees, her hair
the Pacific Ocean, her soul
Colorado snow, the feel of her skin
Texas, the warmth of her glow
her sexy California sand
and seductive Northern Light
her passion erupts volcanoes
in every island of Hawaii
she comes in different colors
in every state and every name
she canvises her artwork
deep within Nevada caves
the Hoover Dam holds back her joy
she yearns to be set free
she flirts with all the oceans
and kisses all the seas
plays hard-to-get with streams and lakes
but floods when she's abused
her North Virginia body
an alluring blue danube
she's a blessing and a godsend
to all who stake her claim
we named her America
in honor of her grace

The Worship

Be God to me
Meaning
Create me anew.
I too will
reconstruct your temple.
I will place honey dripped
remnants of me upon your breasts,
Vibrate your altar,
and sacrifice my flesh
for your approval.
Underneath a grey
stained glass window
a repetitive chant of the willing
will leak from our lips,
ignite our spirits,
and in a rapture
only visible to Angels
we will be converted.

the problem w/ emo poems, is that they are so rub-it-in-your-face, exaggerated depressing that they sound totally fake. how do you write something that sounds REAL?? i.e. what elements would make it that way?

uncertainty,
fear,
anger,
sadness,
building up in this little girl,
tears streaming down her face,
afraid to move from her little corner,
unsure of what is going on,
just knowing it isn't right,
praying for it to end.

wind is blowing,
picking up speed,
birds fly away,
people run,
protection is rare,
near or far,
then after at all,
the destruction,
the wreckage,
the fear,
there is an uneasy calm,
an awkward serenity,
peace

little bird,
flying up in the sky,
above the water,
the tide rises,
as do the waves,
higher and higher,
towering over the beach,
chaos,
winds,
tragedies,
then calm,
quiet,
peace,
the little bird returns,
the nest gone,
little tears falling on the branch,
a sad, quiet calm,
only with passing time,
is there a new nest again.

i recently wrote this poem but i dont quite know what to title it. i was sort of leaning to "A Life of Death" but i personally think it sucks and lacks pinash.

Light barely enters his world of pixels and isolation,
where his only companion is his TV screen.
Day and night he communes with it.
To him, it is almost as powerful as a deeply religious experience.
Its influence gently tugs at his conscience,
permeating his every thought,
it consumes him in its gentle caress.
It is in the very air he breathes.
Without even realizing he is in its power
he naively believes he is independent of it.
Insidious in its incursion,
it leeches him until he is nothing
but an empty shell of his former self.
Freed from its grasp,
he has no choice but to embrace the cold, eternal slumber of death.

So eccentric, so bright and unforeseen
How I question its’ mystical eye

What is this, thats passing me by
fools on the pavement, cars queded in lines
desperate, it seems, to get where there going
to busy to open there eyes

what is this, something thats passed me by?
rushing, waiting, searching for something
got to get this thing done in there lives
what for? what you doing?
Can't you see times allready passed you by?

He's got a job to get to, she's got a client to meet
this guys out to get his fix, she's on the war path
he' s got his mission, she has hers
It all looks really serious, no matter there clothes

whats this, thats passing me by?
a world in confusion, or a city lost in lies
nobody see's me, nobody hears me
no matter how I might try
I could collapse, dyeing on this pavement
and still, they would pass me by

Stop! Where are you going?
nobody answers, nobody says why
What can you see, with those down-cast eyes?
To commute, or not to commute, that is the question.

"Party of One"
i speak for my stomach
translating its silence
It doesn't growl
but i feed it somehow.
it is fed what i want
and not what it needs
but wants are needs
like a flower to its seeds.

i dance with my soul
as i devour the slices
each bite sparks a flame
of concise liveliness
yet it leads to shame
like a child to its guardian

i weep with myself
in the absence of tears
for my incessant mental hunger
and its appetite for destruction.
but its darker than it sounds,
and its deeper than it feels
its a silent cry for reconstruction

it is my habit of eating away
the inedible but curable.
my emotional imbalance
in solitude, in suffering,
insanity.
instead of sleep
i stay up to eat,
it's the only thing that makes me smile.
and it keeps me away from the shrinks
the shrink shares an enemy
common to those of femininity
there's a reason we call it the devils cake.

i am making a "found poem" for english, which is where you take lines written in books, and put them together to make a poem. what books have beautiful poetic lines about outdoors and nature, or maybe just the beach or something?
thanks!

Beyond Reach
The wind calls to your senses
The waves call out to the sea.
Wherever the light hits the dawn
The lark calls out for its tree

Upon a life of darkened crimes
The water ripples free
Unless commanded by the waves
The ripples are clear to see

Beyond the sight of the opened eye
Beyond the dark and sea
Upon a stage of water and salt
The water ripples free

The alarm clock goes off and it's six am,
I look at the bed, and really miss him.
there's an empty space in my king size bed,
I wish that beside me would be his sleeping head.

His snoring used to annoy me so much,
now I would give anything to hear it, to feel the touch
of his warm hot breath on my neck,
I wish he were here, God, i must be an emotional wreck.

I loved him so much, why did he leave me,
When he was around life was so easy,
Now that he's gone,
I am all alone.

I find little comfort that I may see him when I die,
Why did he leave, Why?
He shouldn't have died, not so young,
He had a future, and a soon to be born son.

Now his son is twenty four,
and awhile ago he walked out the door,
to go to college and get a carreer,
oh, now I really wish he were here.

I loved him so much, more then he could know,
I just wish I could have told him that before he had to go,
when he died he took half my heart away,
but I hope to see him again some day.

:)

moonlight on my window pane,

night ascends without a quake,
hazy light- a new day breaks.
