Between myself and the pine trees on the hill
Thoughts passed, like presents. Unwrapping them, I found words that I, not trees, knew and could afford: lonely, sigh, night.THe pines had given me my seven-year self, but kept their own meaning in the sky.

Now, in exchange of dreams this remote world I still unwrap, identify the presents;and always tired recognition gives way to hope that soon I may find a new, a birthday shape, a seperate essence yielded without threat or deceit, a truthful vocabulary of what is and not.

Vowels turn like wheels:the chariot is empty. Tall burning consonants light the deserted street. unwrapping the world, unwrapping the world where pine trees still say lonely, sigh, night, and refuse, refuse, and their needles of deceit dop in my eyes, i began to write.

Not Fair!

Can you smile and cry
At the very same time?
Can you forget about someone
But always have them in mind?
Can you frown and laugh
And not feel outta place?
Can you hate someone
But their memory you can’t replace?
Can you love and hate
And know you feel true?
Can you love someone
And can you hate them too?
Can you hurt and want to laugh?
Can you be happy and cry?
Can you say “I love you too”
And know it’s not a lie?
If not, why do I hate your hurt?
But still love you all the same?
And why I cringe when I hear your voice
Or when someone calls your name?
You play me round unfairly
You make my heart hurt and ache,
But why when I don’t hear from you
Does my heart hurt and break?

I am looking for spoken word, or slam, or just poetry that exemplifies the struggles of the Afro latino, when they discover rasicm in their former country and endure it at a different stance when they migrate to the US. and Or African Poetry that speaks about racism against africans amongst black americans, especially during the great migration in the 60's and 70's

I mean epic like what poets of the 17th and 18th centuries wrote. Maybe that's too ambitious. Anyway, does anyone have any tips or anything? Maybe some websites? Maybe some ideas? Come on, please?

I love poetry, it's true. I would love feedback and opinions. I hope to write a book one day....far away....

"Afraid"

I’ve always been a little shy
Unable to explain the why.

Too unsure of myself to speak
Every day is a little more bleak.

Confined to my mind,
I know it’s not kind.

I’ve never let anyone else in,
I never let the fight within
Me show itself to the light
Until I felt the time was right.

Shedding my curtain of sorrow
I prepare to wait for a better tomorrow.

I never gave myself a chance
I only ever gave myself a glance
To know I was not anything near
What I wanted to be.

But now I see
I should really be me.

It’s time to not be afraid
It’s time to begin my new crusade.

please be honest and tell me what you think

As I lay in my bed at night
Holding my stuffed dog nice and tight
I lay here and think about you
Wondering if your thinking about me too
We will be friends until the end no matter what comes our way
And no matter what other people say
As im laying in bed I start to ponder
And my mind starts to wonder
The thoughts of you and I
Makes me get all shy
I want us to have more
But we are just shutting that door
I fall asleep and start dreaming about what we could have together
And I wonder if life would be any better
I wake up the next day
With not a whole lot to say
Hoping that my dreams will come true
Because I’m tired of feeling blue and just waiting for you

This is going to sound really stupid, but my friend commited suicide and he once told me about his favorite poem, and I can't remember it well, but it was something about him waiting so long, that the grass grew so high, that his friend or something walked right by. I wish I could remember it better, I think it's chinese and I don't think it's in the tao ti ching, though he was a big fan. If anybody has the slightest Idea what this poem could be, I'd be very grateful

I was wondering what the poem was called, who it's by? I can't remember any specific lines, something about taking a walk and pausing for a moment and feeling the person you lost beside you?
Please, if you could help....

Maybe nothingness is to be without your presence,
without you moving, slicing the noon
like a blue flower, without you walking
later through the fog and the cobbles,

without the light you carry in your hand,
golden, which maybe others will not see,
which maybe no one knew was growing
like the red beginnings of a rose.

In short, without your presence: without your coming
suddenly, incitingly, to know my life,
gust of a rosebush, wheat of wind:

since then I am because you are,
since then you are, I am, we are,
and through love I will be, you will be, we'll be.

I have to write a poem in Walt Whitman's style for my English class, and I am desperately trying to figure out how to imitate Whitman. I can't seem to do it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Good Morning

Good morning, daddy!
I was born here, he said,
watched Harlem grow
until colored folks spread
from river to river
across the middle of Manhattan
out of Penn Station
dark tenth of a nation,
planes from Puerto Rico,
and holds of boats, chico,
up from Cuba Haiti Jamaica,
in buses marked New York
from Georgia Florida Louisiana
to Harlem Brooklyn the Bronx
but most of all to Harlem
dusky sash across Manhattan
I’ve seen them come dark
wondering
wide-eyed
dreaming
out of Penn Station—
but the trains are late.
The gates open—
Yet there’re bars at each gate.

What happens
to a dream deferred?

Daddy, ain’t you heard?
