Possibly you were conned by the great Al, "The Many Lives of Albert Walker" The drama is based on real Al's story.

This one-off drama special is inspired by the true story of Albert Walker, a fraudster who fled Canada and came to England under several aliases. He successfully lied, stole, deceived, and ultimately murdered his way through British society. Director Harry Hook sat in on Walker's trial and developed the screenplay with writer Philip Palmer. "I've tried to tell this otherwise macabre story in a gentle way," reveals Hook. "There are no guns, no machismo police work. The idea's to tell a character-led story. We kept the essential spirit of the story, although we've changed some details and some of the names. The main addition is Meyrick, a charming, gentle character with a solid decency and a clear sense of right and wrong."
