Just about anything written by the Beat Generation falls into this category. At that time the youth cutlure was trying to break away from the starch-in-the-shirt, dont rock the boat, Eisenhower 1950s. They succeeded in many different artistic endeavors, an in terms of literature it was the Beat generation inspired primarily by the works of Alan Ginsberg poem Howl, Jack Kerouacs On the Road, and William Burroughs Naked Lunch.

I couldn't find any poems dealing with freedom or the american dream but I do have a list of poets that wrote during that time:
Richard Wilbur, Randall Jarrell, Rosalie Moore, V.R. Lang, Katherine Huskins, Melvin B. Tolson, Hyam Plutzik

The book 'Cold War Poetry: The social text in fifties poem' by Edward Brunner may be of help to you as well the website: www.poets.org

yes, to your question. I write poems, and it was the one thing that kept me from going insane, and losing alot. Infact, I gained alot of self knowledge when I found that I could write them. I didn't know that I could write them, but I had gone through some pretty bad stuff in my life and a friend suggested that I write what I was going through so as to vent it so I didnt hold all the pain and frustrations inside. I began to write, and now have a few of them published. I am also trying to find a way to publish my book called The Face of Reality. but it costs money to do that and I have very little to go on. but I never will give up hope. or the dream of being published one day in my own book of poems. They are unique and quite different then most that you read. Good luck with yours.

Boy, that sure sounds like an essay for English class. I'm sorry for you. I love poetry but not for school if that is what this is for. My suggestion to you is to look on the internet or take a visit to the library. They have all sorts of good stuff in there.

"Howl" by Ginsberg.

Look at the other beat poets most notably Jack Kerouac.
