This is a quote from the tragic short story "The Scarlet Abyss" by James Hurst. Can you help explain this quote to me?

"There is within me (and with sadness I have watched it in others) a knot of cruelty born by the stream of love, much as our blood sometimes bears the seed of our destruction, and at times I was mean to ______*"

*=Doodle, the narrator's invalid brother

P.S. This story is a very deep piece of work. It comments on the tenacity and splendor of the human spirit. Awesome story if you haven't read it.

It is now time for us seniors to write our DCE, a massive project comparing details between three full novels of literary merit. I've narrowed it down to three potential projects, but I've decided to leave it to yahoo answers to decide. Here they are:

Project 1: Modern Sci-fi
- "The Last Question" by Isaac Asimov
- "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick
- "Neuromancer" by William S. Gibson

Project 2: Capitalism and anti-capitalism
- "Bartleby the Scrivener" by Herman Melville
- "Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk
- "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand

Project 3: Really really long books
- "War and Peace" by Lev Tolstoi
- "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexander Dumas
- "Ulysses" by James Joyce

Ready, set, decide!

How long does it usually take an talent agent to call you back if they like your headshot and want to meet with you to discuss more? I know they get hounded by headshots everyday but when I called a few they said they do open them so it's a good chance they will see almost everyone of them. I don't know how long it usually it takes for them to review them considering they must receive hundreds a day. So if anyone knows please tell me! A week? Or two weeks? If they didn't like it, then when should one stop waiting and send their photos to others?

Looking for a series of fantasy novels. The premise is a bunch of friends are playing dungeons & dragons and they end up getting warped into their characters in a fantasy world. I remember that they used to speak pig latin to eachother when they wanted to talk just amongst themselves. It's not the cartoon dungeons and dragons but a series of adult themed novels. There were several books, 4 I think and I remember really liking them even though one of the main characters, the one that turned into a barbarian gets killed.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone remembers anything about "The Scarlet Letter", and would help me with a few main points. If it wouldnt be of any trouble, could you write what was the most memorable moment of the book. Also, any themes that you feel were important or present throughout the book. Lots of details would really help me out. --(i already know it was made into a movie w/ Demi Moore)
Thanx Bunches!!!

I remember a time when I would say whatever that was on my mind. Until 6th grade when I felt that everyone hated me because of the peers in my class. I slowly became more in confident because of this girl who would tease me, and my friend for no reason. I blamed her for awhile for making me self-conscious to just be me. Now that I’m a freshman in college I can feel my self change, and everyday I try to open up just a little. I realized now in time that no one can change me just because they feel that their better.

Now that same girl who was so mean never changed. I can look at her and feel confident that I am doing something in my life, while she is stuck on drugs and is still mean to everyone that she knows who is doing better then she is.

Just someone can make you feel so small doesn’t mean you should hide. Because in the long run you will stay small if you hide. But if you try to be confident then you will grow larger then them and they will be smaller.

I want to find out how my grandfather's brother was killed in Worl War II. I only know his name, where he was from in The U.S.A. and that he was in Army Air Force. Is there a website that I can use to look up details about exacly how he was killed? Is there a list of obituaries of WWII soldiers?

Can someone please break it down really brief or into detail if you would like (I prefer) about what exactly was the Gestapo and their role during the war? I read a lot of things about them but basically it is too factual and I need to hear it from someone else's view and not so much with extreme wording and whatnot. I would like to hear it from a different perspective. Thank you very much for all replies.

Black is the hole,
Bleak is the ditch,
Unspeakable is the woe,
Numbing is the pain,
I know.

Cry if you need,
Scream if you must,
But move on afterwards.

3 men are holding the love of your life hostage. You are wounded in the stomach and bleeding profusely. You have a gun with 4 shots left. Your not that great of a shot. Your vision is a little blurry. What happens? Then tell me what happens the next day if there is a next day. Best answer wins

Is it just my copy or was the revelation of death of the couple went like, " oh by the way, lupin and tonks are dead"? After devoting pages upon pages on the evolution of their relationship, their unfortunate end happened with hardly any narration/detail -- it was just casually mentioned that their corpses were on the long tables. What happened? Why no closure?
