Can someone please break it down really brief or into detail if you would like (I prefer) about what exactly was the Gestapo and their role during the war? I read a lot of things about them but basically it is too factual and I need to hear it from someone else's view and not so much with extreme wording and whatnot. I would like to hear it from a different perspective. Thank you very much for all replies.

it's like the secret service for germany. it was formed in april 1933. they had the power to question, interrogate, and imprison people without government authority. it's like they ran everything they didn't need warrants and could send to jail whoever they wanted they thought was a suspect. they were like crooked cops. if there was a threat to their organization they handled it how they wanted with no authorization from any government official. unless it was hitler

The Geheime Staatspolizei (German for "secret state police"), commonly abbreviated as Gestapo, formed the official state secret police force of Nazi Germany.

The role of the Gestapo was to investigate and combat "all tendencies dangerous to the State." They had the authority to investigate treason, espionage and sabotage cases, and cases of criminal attacks on the Party and State. They were similar to the KGB and FBI/CIA in their operations, however, their mission was more sinister...for example, rounding up Jews in occupied countries and shipping them off to the death camps.
