'Virginia group' who were colonists looking for land and a better life than they had in England. This was the Jamestown group. They weren't looking so much for religious freedom as they were new opportunities to prosper. As it turned out, they found a good cash crop in tobacco. Unfortunately, this also led to the importation of African slaves to work the plantations as early as 1619 - just 12 years after the 1607 founding of the Jamestown colony. The institution of slavery in the south would cause many problems later on.
