It is now time for us seniors to write our DCE, a massive project comparing details between three full novels of literary merit. I've narrowed it down to three potential projects, but I've decided to leave it to yahoo answers to decide. Here they are:

Project 1: Modern Sci-fi
- "The Last Question" by Isaac Asimov
- "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick
- "Neuromancer" by William S. Gibson

Project 2: Capitalism and anti-capitalism
- "Bartleby the Scrivener" by Herman Melville
- "Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk
- "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand

Project 3: Really really long books
- "War and Peace" by Lev Tolstoi
- "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexander Dumas
- "Ulysses" by James Joyce

Ready, set, decide!

#1... This sounds like a great paper.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Wonderful novel. It was turned into the movie Bladerunner, but do not count on the movie to get you through. They only used a tiny part of the novel. For your project, write about empathy.

Neuromancer is great, too. Gibson was the real force behind the Cyberpunk genre. A virtual reality gem of a book. It could work in project #2 also.

Bartleby the Scrivener. A really great story. Very sad. Such a sweet, wonderful little man. The end of the story will really touch your heart. I cannot imagine a man so devoted to his job.

Atlas is a tough read. A bit intense. If you have to read Rand, I prefer Fountainhead. Fight Club is cool - my son loved it. It was ok for me.

The Count of Monte Cristo is great. Do some swashbuckling. It is a great, sweeping epic novel. So richly detailed. If you use Ulysses, you need to start reading immediately. It will consume you. Great book, but I would never read it for a paper - only for pleasure. It is too intense a read to write about. But other than them being "really long", I don't really see much of a connection to write about.

I like #1 the best. Three really fun books to read.

Hope that gets you thinking. Pax - C

I would go with the first project as well. The books sound the most fun and there will be tons to write about. Neuromancer is a great book.

I vote for Modern Sci-Fi cause that's what I would have the most interest in.
