Beyond NYC, LA, Washington DC and Chicago....where are the top cities for theatre? With the most live theatre companies? Thriving companies? Good arts communities?

San Francisco definitely, Seattle, Lincoln(Nebraska, its where the national thespian festival is held), Denver, and perhaps Boston and Atlanta.

The Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul have more theatres than any city in America outside of NYC. Los Angeles actually doesn't do live theatre as much as it does movies and television. I have also been told that Seattle is up and coming.

I have to put Cincinnati as a shout out. Actually, if you're doing backstage work, it's one of the best places in the country to get work. It's the 5th largest stagehand union, and the first three are all in NYC.

Atlanta is the far superior city for actors than the rest which are weak.

I'd put San Diego in there. It's a tough question without actual statistics.
