I don't believe it's fair that we are forced to learn this when there are sooo many different creation stories. I am a christian high school freshmen and was very annoyed by the whole concept! Your opinion?

LDS theology teaches that Jehovah is the preincarnate Jesus Christ, while Elohim is the formal name for the Heavenly Father. LDS theology also teaches that they are not the same God, which is blasphemous, but two distinct Gods who both comprise two Holy Personages of the Godhead.

In the King James Version of the Bible, the word Jehovah is the Elizabethan approximation of the actual Hebrew word YHWH, which is also translated as LORD. The word "God" is almost always a translation of the word "Elohim" from Hebrew. How does the average Latter-day Saint reconcile the verse Deuteronomy 6:4, "Hear, O Israel! The LORD (Jehovah) is our God (Elohim), the LORD is one!" with his or her LDS understanding of the meaning of those words? Is Jehovah actually God, or is the Bible incorrect and not to be trusted? Note, also, that the phrase "the LORD (Jehovah) our God (Elohim)" occurs numerous times throughout the Bible.

Besides the AFI top 100 films ever, I am putting together a list of movies I must see. I've got about 30 so far. But I know I am missing alot of good flicks. Preferably, I would like movies made after 1970, because I'm only in high school. I want to have an idea of the era/setting and what the movie is about. And I don't really want to see black/whites! Any movie you know and love from any genre will be awesome!
So just post a movie title!
Thanks

Like most Americans, Superman is an immigrant but an exceptional one. As many immigrants come from foreign countries by earthly transportation, Superman crash-lands on earth from another planet in his rocket ship. As a result immigrants and Superman become part of American, and both must follow the edifying behavior. However, Superman attains them well. Engle points out that his superpowers are “equivalent” to cultural characteristics that make immigrants stand out. In addition, many foreign settlers have dual personalities: one for their public persona, the other for their private life, to integrate little by little in their communities. Therefore, Superman simulates fragility and human characteristics to the public as Clark Kent. At home, he reveals his powerful and heroic character as Superman, utilizing a costume to protect his "human" identity. Altogether, immigrants and this heroic figure have new identities in their lives to assimilate into the American society.

I have been sad and depressed at the same time! My friends and boyfriend tried to talk to me, but I didn't want to talk to them. I haven't been doing my work lately! I feel like quitting school and leaving Yahoo! What do you think I should do besides talking to someone about this? I tried that and it didn't work. Please be honest! I'm serious here! Thanks so much for answering this question!

This one is directed to born-again Christian parents. I have some kids still young enough to make Christmas lists for the things they would like for Christmas. They pore over magazines and catalogs with zeal. This has irked me for several years. I do not like the idea of making lists. To me it smacks of coveting. It is not as though our family is poor. They have plenty of aunts and uncles who give each year at Christmas and birthdays. We are not wealthy, but God has been gracious. Still, we get them each three items each for each birthday and Christmas. And we don't tend to spend a whole lot because we want them to be grounded and learn to save for some things themselves. We don't want them focusing on material things.

I would like to end the practice altogether. My husband says that that's how we know what they really want. I feel that true gift giving is knowing the person and giving from the heart, not what the recipient is 'expecting'. To me, that's greedy.

When I was a teenager and my room was messy, my Dad had an obnoxious way of dealing with it. He would wake me up really really early before school started and stand over me.

He'd point and be like, "Pick that up" "Pick that up" and point at items on the floor. I don't know why, but it felt kind of degrading, especially because he'd yell and curse if I showed the least bit of attitude or annoyance.

Anyhow, my daughter is five and spent the weekend with my parents. She called me on Saturday crying because my Dad had done the same thing to her.

I wasn't sure how to react. I kind of distracted her by talking about something else so she'd stop crying.
