You can touch the dog after you apply the medicine just avoid the area where the medicine went on him. You can touch the medicined area a few hours after.

You should wash your hands right after applying the Advantix. After that pet your dog all you want. I avoid the spot where I just applied the medication.

my vet said most of the medicine is absorbed that day, but not to give a bath for a couple of days. I wonder if anyone has an idea on how to keep others from petting the dog that day. We always inform the family but then someone else pets the dog and has to be told to wash their hands.

Until it's dry which is usually a few hours...also, be sure if you have cats that play with the dog, groom the dog etc, you keep them away as well until dry.

I typically apply it @ night before bed so I don't have the urge to pet them.

30 minutes and also wash hands - tell kids etc to avoid that area for a few days also!
