because i am curious about something i made if somebody made it. It consists of a tube with 2 metal strips, and something absorbent(i dont like to tell it since somebody may copy it). Blanket surveillance like CCTV systems, facial recognition software, telecommunication and vehicle tracking, the DNA database etc. etc. does nothing to stop criminals, terrorists, or 'social problems' and it doesn't make anybody feel any safer.

If it doens't solve any of the problems it was brought in for, what exactly is it there for?

Just interested in what the majority think here.

My boss has hired a new PA (as Im leaving next fri) today was supposed to be her first day... She sent her husband in, saying she was too sick (with a COLD!) and wouldnt be better til Thursday... (tho, how she knows by thursday- seems a little too specific for a genuine illness.. how would you know?)

She knows theres an awful lot I need to show her.. And now have one week less to do so...

Does anyone think this is acceptable...? I think we're a bit biased as we're stressing... Just interested who thinks a Cold is good enough for missing work...?

This is a particularly thorny issue because the debate is often wrapped in several layers of hypocrisy, often leading to many humanitarian plans but no actual improvements. Liberals take pride in buying products made in accordance with child labour regulations although this means that companies will move from places such as Bangladesh and the previously employed children will end-up in forced prostitution. Conservatives take pride in “saving” fetuses but look down on single mothers as undesirables. Everybody decries child abuse by priests after trials but before that it is a taboo subject. Everybody decries forced labour and prostitution but after we reassure ourselves of our high moral standard, we forget about the solutions. To most people, the girls raped in Cambodia or the children staving in Sudan are world problems, issues to put on a bumper-sticker so everybody can see how moral we are.

At the moment I'm on a Graphic Design course (pre-degree) and I'm thinking I want to switch to Illustration for my BA - the real reason I want to do this is 'cause I like DRAWING!
I've been forewarned that at my interview I'm going to be asked why Illustration is NOT Graphic Design - the thing is, I'm not sure I can come up with an eloquent answer! What would you say if you were asked this?

For bonus points, I may well be asked to explain why Illustration is NOT Fine Art either - I think I've got a good answer for this but it couldn't hurt to get others' input..
