I'm in my senior year, graduating in 2008; I'm in a process of making a solid college list, and I'd like to hear about experinces that you have/had in Temple University. ^^

I was a faculty member there for four years, although I never attended as a student. First of all, I really loved my students at Temple, who were very down-to-earth and often extremely bright. Temple is a large school, and if you are looking for the type of place where you will know everyone you walk past, Temple isn't it; you probably would have to make an effort to feel like you belong to something there. The neighborhood for the Broad Street campus isn't good, although that could be said for other Philadelphia campuses like the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel as well, but know that you won't be wandering aimlessly through the neighborhood. It is a very urban school (there is a suburban campus at Ambler, which has a completely different feel, but perhaps a more limited set of academic options), and attracts a lot of students from varied ethnic and economic backgrounds. Academically, Temple has always been good, and in recent years has picked up dramatically in some areas. The business school, for example, was decent when I was there, but has strengthened itself considerably over the past decade or so, and is ranked in several areas. I can't speak to all disciplines, but I get the sense that there is a far better administration in place these days.
