My husband and I have recently debated affirmative action. He feels that it is unfair and that the decision should be based on the merit of the applicant. I wholly agree, however, I still feel it is a necessary institution simply because there are many people out there who truly would not make a decision based solely on merit.
I've never been an affirmative action hire (so far as I know), but even so I have found that on many occasions I make less than my white co-workers with equal or lesser qualification and time on the job.

I'd really like some opinions on this. Just look at many of these posts for example... could you really trust the average person to make a colorblind decision even though it effects your livelihood?

Why did it go to war with Iraq? Didn't Jesus say: Blessed be the peace-keepers for theirs is the kingdom of heaven? What about his concern for the poor? Isn't the US government against the poor? Don't they pay all the taxes while corporations pay nothing? Is it hypocritical to claim you are a Christian when you deny asylum to the poor?

It seems my good friend - Mr. Blair - still hasn't realised that he is at fault for his bad press. Who do you blame for their bad press....the public figures or the media for reporting it? Personally, I hate seeing celebrities harrassed but I hate cover ups more. How much of these evil press men's words do you believe?

I told you Christ was back in the flesh?

Cause face it, he's not just gonna appear in the sky one day on your way to work or your souls aren't gonna get sucked up into heaven while you're eating dinner... so in order for anything to happen he has to be reborn into this world.

But what if he was already born though? Not one of those "he's in our hearts" but actually living amoung us? But he's not claiming that he is... he just IS.

That when he gets to a certain age he will become known to the world (kinda like a celebrity) and that's when the 7 year Tribulation period will begin... ending with his death then THAT'S when he is ressurrected and appears in the sky and then the rapture.

But honestly, how would you feel if you KNEW he was actually here, breathing, living?

Comfort... or maybe fear?

But i'm actually positive he is. And that's not just belief, that's a-matter-of-fact i know he is(i'm not claiming it either). Just try to believe me, please.

this is one of the reson why i dislike christianity and other abrahimic religions:
imagine you are a very good person who follows the commandments and so you go to heaven....however your spouse, mother, children or other very close loved ones were bad people.....they slept around, took drugs, were thiefs and gamblers and so they ended up going to hell........well what would be the point in a heaven you couldn't even be with you loved ones? it just doesn't makes sense......sure you get to float on clouds, and get your virgins etc etc...but all this would be pointless if you dont even hae your loved ones.

Another thing i dont get is the whole concept of 'hell'........why would this even be created??
what possible pleasure could a 'loving' god get from torturing people for all eternity??
i know it's the devil that does it...but over all god controls everything right? so why would he want ones of his creations to suffer like that??

would you call her? Even if you extremely stressed out at the moment, life sucked due to living with your alcoholic brother and neurotic sister, you never had enough time for anything, and you were broke? Would you still call her to see what she wanted? or would you just hope to run into her again in person when things calmed down.

hehe Hypothetically speaking...

I have not seen this person, but only spoken to him as he is in our overseas office. I am a very simple gurl not at all the hot babe kinds. Of course, I told him no, but was just curious why me,because this is the second time that someone so senior to me has asked me (other one was not from office but an aquaintance). Please do not give whacky answers... I want to know this to know and correct if there is something wrong that I am doing..... thanks!

According to the numbers below, Peyton Manning had a much easier playoff route, compared to Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady. The numbers in ( ) stand for a player's regular season rating.

Peyton Manning (101.0) vs. opponents below in 2007 playoffs

Wildcard - Trent Green (74.1) was not very healty and played only eight regular season games.

Division - Steve McNair (82.5) was not the same NcNair three years ago (2003-2004 season). He had some injuries himself over the years and had to get surgery on his foot.

Conference - Tom Brady (87.9) lost his best receiver (Deion Branch), despite going 12-4. Manning BARELY defeated Brady in the LAST minute.

Superbowl - Rex Grossman (73.9) is probably the worst starting quarterback to ever play in the Superbowl. Rex Grossman sucks and would make a great bowling pin.

I used to go to a good church in Australia where there were plenty of people my age, where they were respectful and calm and welcoming to newcomers.

Since I got to Scotland I've been to one Church of Scotland church, where they were calm and respectful but the place was full of people over 70 and the sermons made me drift off. I've been to one Episcopalian church where they were closer to my age (a little younger) but they were all tearing around like hairy goats and singing those awful modern songs I hate (I like the old hymns).

Any ideas how I can find a church where I have something in common with the other people, people who are in my age group (25-40), that use decent music and use the traditional format instead of the new 'express yourself' format?

Do I have to visit every church in my area or is there any help, eg online forums. I don't personally know anyone else here who's a Christian.

In basic terms an insurance company has refused to pay out on a policy that should be triggered on health grounds citing that they believe that all avenues of treatment have not been explored according to their expert. My G.P. and specialist dispute this. The insurance company are refusing to pay and so I want to investigate legal proceedings on a no win no fee or legally assisted basis and would very much like to know: which type of lawyer one should approach and second, would anyone recommend a lawyer practicing in this field in the Sunderland and Newcastle locality? Thankyou very much.
