According to the numbers below, Peyton Manning had a much easier playoff route, compared to Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady. The numbers in ( ) stand for a player's regular season rating.

Peyton Manning (101.0) vs. opponents below in 2007 playoffs

Wildcard - Trent Green (74.1) was not very healty and played only eight regular season games.

Division - Steve McNair (82.5) was not the same NcNair three years ago (2003-2004 season). He had some injuries himself over the years and had to get surgery on his foot.

Conference - Tom Brady (87.9) lost his best receiver (Deion Branch), despite going 12-4. Manning BARELY defeated Brady in the LAST minute.

Superbowl - Rex Grossman (73.9) is probably the worst starting quarterback to ever play in the Superbowl. Rex Grossman sucks and would make a great bowling pin.

Ben Roethlisberger (98.6) vs. opponents below in 2006

Wildcard - Carson Palmer (101.1) had his best season.

Division - Peyton Manning (104.1) had his second best season

Conference - Jake Plummber (90.2) had his second best season.

Superbowl - Matt Hasselbeck (98.2) had his best season.

As we can see Ben Roethlisberger was only in his second season and faced a number of tough quarterbacks, yet he was able to help Jerome Bettis ("The Bus") earn his first ring. Not to mention, Big Ben was not 100% healthy and had to overcome injuries that season.

Tom Brady (92.6) vs. opponents below in 2005

Division - Peyton Manning (121.1) had his best season and was awarded MVP.

Conference - Ben Roethlisberger (98.1) went undefeated (13-0) during the regular season.

Superbowl - Donovan McNabb (104.7) had his best season, finishing second for MVP.

Tom Brady is the man because with all the injuries [http://www.patriots.com/games/index.cfm?ac=gamereportdetail&pid=9486&pcid=41] the Patriots had that season (Troy Brown, Deion Brach, Corey Dillion, ect.) Brady still managed to win.

Peyton Manning is a great qb and I was very happy to see him win his first ring.

Well that's a very impressive assembly of statistics you put together to try and discredit Manning.
I would have never thought there was someone out there that disliked him so much they would go through so much research to try and prove that he just isn't that good and some kind of "fluke".
First off, Peyton Manning was on a TEAM that won the championship. It was not just his championship, it what the Indianapolis Colts championship, and I think it is rather petty to try and show some BS stats to say it was just some kind of anomaly that says they really weren't as good as a Super Bowl championship says they are.
Did you do the same in depth analysis of any other teams that won the Super Bowl?

The last time I checked, the opposing QBs are not on the field at the same time facing each other, so trying to provide excuses for the other losing QBs is meaningless. How bout giving excuses for the opposing defenses not being able to stop the Colts offense?

The Colts (and Manning's) seasons up until their championship tell the story of whether it was a fluke or not.

2003- 12-4 - Manning's 5th 4,000 yd season - AFC championship game.

2004 -12-4 - 49 TD passes by Manning - 121.1 QB rating.

2005 - 14-2 - 13-0 start, it would have been 16-0 if they wouldn't have benched their starters for the last 3 games.

It was inevitable with the pattern they were setting that the Colts were due to win it all.
THE QB IS NOT THE ONLY ONE ON THE TEAM AWARDED THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
ALL THE PLAYERS RECEIVE RINGS AND ARE INCLUDED IN THE CREDIT OF WINNING.

I don't get why you think you can evaluate how hard Peyton's playoff route was by comparing his quarterback rating with the rating of the QBs on the teams his team played against. You do know that there are 21 other starting players on every one of those teams, right? Football is a team sport, and sometimes a fantastic team doesn't have a great quarterback. The 2000 Ravens were one of the greatest teams in my memory, and Trent Dilfer was their starting QB.

Peyton's Colts may very well have had an easier route to the Super Bowl than teams in past years, but "the numbers below" that you mention don't prove a thing about whether his route was easier or not. A quarterback is important, but he is only one guy.

Football is a team sport, not an individual competition between quarterbacks.

Okay. #ma1. Yes, the Colts did have a stupidly easy road to the Superbowl. Everyone here who says differently is gonna get a point subtracted...on Deadest of Dogs.

#2. What in the hell does Ben Rothlesburger have to do with anything?

#3 The Colts Championship wasn't a fluke...the Bears weren't the Patriots (I now just realized that when you said Championship, I was thinking of the 38-34 game). Peyton, if you'll notice, actually quieted down his play in the Superbowl, because he was so nervous about losing. the AFC game though, was VERY much a fluke. You'll recall that at a key point in the game Tom Brady made an interception (okay, he kinda screwed up), but by that point we were pretty much up by a good bunch...then the colts make kind of a comeback...and then a FEROCIOUSLY STUPID PASS INTERFERENCE CALL that single handedly changed everything in the Colts favor...the one of Ellis Hobbs...there were in fact about 3...you can go back and look if you have the tape. Great Game the AFC, but Peyton was going to get his a ss handed to him and escaped somehow.

Why are you saying it is a fluke that he won because the other quarterbacks he played had poor ratings? I don't follow the logic. The better comparison would be to say, he led the Indianapolis Colts against three VERY TOUGH defenses and managed to still have a good rating. They won AT New England and AT Baltimore, those are notoriously difficult places to play. Honestly, they might as well skip the Superbowl because the NFC doesn't have a chance.

It isn't a fluke that the Colts have been a Superbowl contender for the last six seasons.

No, it wasn't a fluke but I don't see him as a dynasty type of QB. I think Big Ben has a better chance of winning multiple championships because it took Peyton so long to win one. Manning had the best team and his team won because of the ingredients of running and defense. I say he played a part in the superbowl victory but he was not the MVP. If i had to pick an MVP for the Colts it would be a tie between Rhodes and Addai because they moved the ball up and down the field with recieving and rushing yardage.

How could you say Manning had an easier playoff route, the Colts played the Top-3 defenses in the NFL. They beat the Chiefs who was suppose to run all over them and shut the down. They beat the Ravens who was the #2 seed in Baltimore with the best defense in the NFL. They beat the Patriots. Then is the SB the beat the Bears with the stingy defense. Tell me another team that could beat the Ravens, Patriot, and the Bears in the playoffs to win the superbowl.

you're fairly extraordinarily a lot of a homer fool and also you've 0 credibility and a lot less intelligence. Rodney Harrison's damage performed about as a lot function contained in the Colts victory as I did. The Colts gained because Patriots couldn't save that whining cry toddler from marching down the sphere eighty yards on the top of the game to score the game prevailing landing. and then that womanizing boob of a quarterback Brady threw an interception that denied the Patriots an chance to respond to the Colts previous landing. in truth, it would want to nicely be argued that Tom Brady is the reason that the Colts gained that different football sport. Tom Brady and a protection that develop into complacent with an 18 factor lead. That my pal isn't some thing yet getting your butt kicked and being humiliated on nationwide television with the international observing. Your vanity, stupidity, and shortage of a basic information of the interest of football is a humiliation to the Patriots and to the recent England area. you fairly might want to detect a distinct crew to cheer for because Patriots followers do not want your lack of archives and stupidity besmirching their in the different case reliable popularity. briefly, you suck.

The Colts didn't just play the opposing quarterbacks. Their championship (not just Peyton's alone) was no fluke. They played the best during the post season, and they beat the Patriots in a great game.

I believe Brady is the best big game quarterback, but you have to give credit where it is due.

Can we STOP putting down Grossman. If he is the WORST then Manning must be up there as they had the same number of over 100 QB Rating games. Grossman is either GREAT or TERRIBLE it seems.
Now about Manning. If you say it was HIS then YES it was a fluke. Give the credit to the DEFENSE, where it belongs. If it wasn't for the D then Manning would have lost to the Ravens.

It wasn'a a fluke

Wildcard - Ok, the Chiefs were not good but they entered at #6 i think

Division - Ravens were the #1 defense in the league.

Conference - Pats were the #2 defense in the league and Manning figured out how to torch that powerful defense.

**** By the way, how many times the best QBs (Montana, Elway, Unitas) BARELY defeated the rival in the LAST minute?. Even Brady won many times in a LAST minute drive thanks to Vinatieri's leg. ****

Superbowl - Manning won in a horrible weather despite the TD return by Devin Hester starting the game. This time, he torched the #3 defense.

Rating doesn't tell you anything, Manning had to beat the top 3 defenses in the league during the playoffs to win the Super Bowl.
