Both profess the Solas(doctrine by the bible alone, salvation by grace through Christ alone and salvation by Christ alone.
The view of the sacraments is different:Lutheranism teaches baptismal regeneration and the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and Calvinism does not.
Calvinism approaches worship by saying if a practice is not commanded by the New Testament it is prohibited and Lutheranism teaches if some
thing is not contrary to the New Testament it can be permitted(the Adiaphora Principle). Therefore,Lutherans kept more Catholic customs than Calvinists.
Luther tended towards double predstination but Lutheranism moved away from that for even though we are fallen we still can accept the offer of grace. In Dort Calvinism Christ died only for the Elect predestined and not for all, grace is irresistible and if one is not saved God did not give the grace for salvation and the Elect cannot lose their salvation ultimately.
In Europe, Lutheranism tended to be a state church often dominated by the princes and Calvinism seemed often to be in conflict unless it dominated the state and all aspects of society.
