why have you generlised old people like this. maybe its just an unfortunate experience you've had. the old lady (in her 80's) who lives quite near me, loves to watch the kids play. she speaks to them, they treat her with respect. she buys some of them toys at Christmas and chocolate at Easter. my daughter, who is 5, thinks she's a lovely woman and so do i.
remember that in the old and young there are both well-mannered and ill-manered and at whatever age you are, if you want the respect of others you have to treat them with respect. my mom had a lovely saying "manners maketh the man"

Older people demand our respect. The majority of the elderly suffered great in the 40s to make our country free for the the younger generation. In my experience they can remember their youth more then what they did yesterday. Yeah we all know they moan and can be cantankerous but i guess when you are probably in pain with arthritis, tire very quickly and just want a peaceful life, then i guess a load of kids arsing around will kinda get on ur nerves
We do live in an ageist society were a lot of the elderly of the UK are considered second class and burden on resources, when in reality they should treated as well as anybody

I spot a generalism! Yes, I see your point that old people moan at young children (they moan full stop!), mainly because they don't grasp today's youth, culture and soceity and consider the way things were done in their time to be the best. However, not every old person is rude (to children or anyone!), in fact, most are pleasant and happy go lucky characters.

Surely this is an unwarranted generalisation. Society has moved on over the years and young people are much less respectful to everyone, young and old alike, even those in authority. Some older people remember perhaps their own upbringing in less cavalier days and mourn. Some are unable to appreciate or adapt to change, and some just like their own way. There are many, tho' who have moved with the times and rejoice.

Because it has been a long time since they could recall there youth. Think of an older pet, (i.e. a dog, with age most mammals, become onry). which doesn't exclude human race. Don't underestimate all old people to be this way; perhaps it is the only way they can seek out some type of attention. As, there family has left them behind and no longer visits them.

Not all old people are like that in the same way that all children are rude!. Unfortunately, many parents have no respect for anyone around them and think that their "little johnny" can kick his ball against anyones house or car and this is OK we should all look at them and go ahhhhhhh!. Everyone needs to have a little more respect for each other I think.

Elderly people have a low noise tolerance, thats just the case with biology.
You also have to understand some of the frustration levels that they are experiencing. I'm sure they would love to be running around, plaing ball and making noise (these are all signes of youthful-ness and fun loving times) and their bodies will just not allow for it anymore. Step into their shoes for a moment and reflect on what they might be experiencing.

My Nana is always complaining about my younger cousins. If they sit around watching the t.v., she tells them to go do something productive, if they rough house like all boys do, she tells them to settle down, if they ask for seconds at the table, she tells them they're going to get fat, and so on. I think they only do this to help them learn to be considerate and have good manners, so they become good people. Old people have learned a lot from experience and a lot from others telling them "don't do this" and "don't do that" when they were younger, that it is stamped in their mind as legitimate. Everyone deserves respect, regardless of how crabby they are.

This comes down to rights and privileges. When you have lived as long as some of these folks have your earn the right to be cranky whenever you feel like it. The young folks need to look at a cranky old person and see the other side of the story.

A lot of older people are extremely sensitive to noise. It's a degeneration of the inner ear.
Not to mention, some parents just let their kids run loose, and don't try to establish ground rules for them.
However, keep the ear problem in mind.
