Since Reagan left office, the media (not just the news, either) and the public have been much more quick to use the person in office as the butt of jokes, getting cheap laughs at the expense of the US President.
I think this is wrong. In a country that is almost evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats, it stands to reason that regardless of who is in office, AT LEAST half of the people in the country aren't going to like its occupant. In the case of our current president, it's a LOT more than half.
But the office of the President of the United States of America commands respect. Even if you don't like who's in there, the office commands respect.
Are you appalled by how cheaply you or someone you know hurls insults? What ever happened to the good old days where even if you disagreed, you did so respectfully?
