The statue crowning the U.S. Capitol is called "Freedom." Yet it was a black slave who figured out how to coax apart the 19½-foot, 15,000-pound plaster statue so it could be cast in bronze and rejoined atop the dome.
Slaves, in fact, helped build much of the building and grounds of Congress, and the White House

Since Reagan left office, the media (not just the news, either) and the public have been much more quick to use the person in office as the butt of jokes, getting cheap laughs at the expense of the US President.

I think this is wrong. In a country that is almost evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats, it stands to reason that regardless of who is in office, AT LEAST half of the people in the country aren't going to like its occupant. In the case of our current president, it's a LOT more than half.

But the office of the President of the United States of America commands respect. Even if you don't like who's in there, the office commands respect.

Are you appalled by how cheaply you or someone you know hurls insults? What ever happened to the good old days where even if you disagreed, you did so respectfully?

We recently moved to a really nice newly renovated apartment complex, and we pay a lot of money, but upon moving in we noticed that we could our upstairs neighbors WAY to much. They are the only ones that BLAST their TV, their rap music, they walk around with shoes on and it sounds like a heard of elephants is going to come falling through the ceiling.

Talking to them has done nothing. It is a teenager and his single mom, When the mom is home it is tolerable, but the kid just takes pleasure in being a pain and causing more noise. He even bounces his basketball on the floor....

Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions to be equally annoying to only the upstairs apartment? My side neighbors are great and I never hear anything from them, so I don't want to start bugging everybody.

My hubby and I have been married for three years and there are times when things have been a little rocky. We have a 1 year old daughter and I just found out that I was 5 weeks pregnant. When things get bad my hubby likes to go tell everyone such as his mom, his brother (currently in Iraq), and coworkers about our problems. I just found on the computer where he emailed some girl he knew back in school and told her he is in a unhappy marriage and he is only here for his daughter. I am so devastated. I am trying to keep high spirits. I had 2 miscarriages before I had my daughter and I don't want to go through that again. What should I do about my husband?

How does the theme of this poem illustrate Wordsworth’s commitment to the pastoral, and his suspicions about the city? Do you think the “temptations” (prejudice, poverty, violence etc,) in today’s society suggest his attitudes are correct (that is, do you think that a close-knit home and community are prescriptions against the disaster that befalls Michael?)

Let me first start by saying I'm sure there are some good men out there but where? I've been reflecting on my life and it seems like the men in my past and the men now have let me down. I've lost a home and my children at one point, lost my self respect at many times and all I want is someone to love unconditionally (besides my children) and someone who wants to spend the rest of their life loving and caring for me without being such a "jerk". Is that sooo much to ask for???

Since marriage is one of the sacraments a person can be bestowed with during life, why is it forbidden for Priests to be married?

From my understanding, this is the only sacrament that a Priest can never receive.
