Jack, Caleb and Shamus (I assume you mean Seamus) are pretty normal these days. Unless these names have any significance I'd go for something less predictable, otherwise your son will end up in a class at school with a load of other Jacks or Calebs or Seamuses, like I was in a class with 4 Sarahs and 4 Matthews, and I think an individual (but not freaky, trashy or chavvy) name can really help a child's confidence.

Like Jack and Caleb, not too fond of Shamus. The last kind of sounds like a pets name--no offense.

I think you have reached too narrow. Expand a little more and lost those last two choices.
Jack is strong. Caleb sounds like a 19th century farmer with a pitchfork. Shamus has so many different spelling options that the kid will spend his whole life telling strangers and potential-employers which of all those spellings is the one your stuck him with.
Have mercy on him - he is going to have to live with the tag you slap on him and some of those names are not very pleasant to live with.

I really like Jack. Shamus sounds too much like shame and that's not cool. Caleb is nice too but I think jack is strong and a good name for when he grows up too!

Before you select a name, you should know what the names mean. People act like what their name means. For instance, I have cousin named Sarah. Sarah means "princess" and she does act kind of like a princess would in that she's very polite and beautiful. Try looking up what the meaning of the names are. www.behindthename.com gives the meanings of a lot of names.
Jack- Derived from Jackin (earlier Jankin), a medieval pet form of JOHN. American writers Jack London and Jack Kerouac were two famous bearers of this name.
Caleb- Means "dog" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament this is the name of one of the twelve spies sent by Moses into Israel. Of the Israelites who left Egypt with Moses, Caleb and Joshua were the only ones who lived to see the promised land.
Shamus- Anglicized form of SÉAMUS ((Irish form of JAMES(English form of the Late Latin Jacomus which was derived from Ιακωβος (Iakobos), the New Testament Greek form of יַעֲקֹב (Ya'aqov) (see JACOB). This is the name of two apostles in the New Testament. The first was Saint James the Greater, the apostle John's brother, who was beheaded by Herod Agrippa in the Book of Acts. The second was James the Lesser, son of Alphaeus. Another James (known as James the Just) is also mentioned in the Bible as being the brother of Jesus. Kings of England and Scotland have borne this name. Other famous bearers include the inventor of the steam engine James Watt, the explorer Captain James Cook, and the novelist and poet James Joyce.))
