i tried to discuss a problem with a therapist a few years back, but i couldnt get them to come out from behind a professional fascade.
they were unwilling to give me a soundingboard of their life experience with which i could gain some insight into where i was going wrong.
now i know about being proffessionally detached , but if my issue was something to do with the norms of communication, and getting a take on someone elses real life experience could help me to some useful realizations about my problem, would they not be being negligent to bring that life experience to the table.
would it be being cowardly not to?[just for fear of embarassment]
would the revealing of the therapists possible limitations or inadequacies in a session instead of being aloof and invulnerable not sometimes assist the encounter ie: to meet as two people trying to explore a problem, rather than as "patient" and a person "in the know"?
i dont see how you can be "congruent", without your whole self there.
