United States - December 2007

I am considering moving to Galveston to go to Texas A&M. Since it is for sometime (at least 3 years to finish school) I am wondering what is it like to live there? My girlfriend will be moving with me and I would just like to know how easy a transition this might be. We live about 45 min. west of Chicago, and are used to an area with plenty to do, opportunities (work wise), and a nice area to live in. I really want to go to school there, but i'm concerned about hurricanes, crime, and stagnant economic conditions. I just would like a really honest opinion about the place and what are some neighborhoods that are good and which are bad. Rent wise we are looking for something in the 900-1200 price range. Also my gf is an HR professional, how hard is it to find work there?

I've seen "VIP" tickets advertised on Ebay and such into nightclubs such as Pure, Rain, etc. Are they legit? I assume it's just for the cover charge and not the front of the line.. What do people recommend in regard to buying club passes/tickets?

I am going to Miami Beach at the beginning of January and I've been looking for a hotel in Miami Beach in the last couple of days. I have found a couple I like, but I wanted it to be right on the beach so I don't have to drive or walk too long to get to the beach. I'm considering relocating to Hilo Hawaii, and according to this link:

Rooms go for as little as 200 a month, but most of the chesp ones range from 350-500 a month. What can I expect from a residence in Hilo Hawaii that only costs 350 dollars? Is it going to be beaten down and decreped or just tiny?

I don't care if its tiny, I don't plan on spending much time at home anyways. I just don't want to show up and realize its a deceped crackhouse or something lol.

I live in BC, Canada and here the cabs meter goes up by time. The longer the ride the more it costs. I can't see that being the way it is in cities like New York where traffic is so bad. It would cost a fortune to go a few blocks. Can anyone tell me how the meter goes up there? Is it based on the distance you drive?
