You either live in an area where there are cabs around or you call a local livery car service. There are dozens of them in the outer boroughs that are dispatched. I have used

Best way is to call a cab. Wait downstairs for the cab to pick you up. Unlike Manhattan, in Brooklyn, very few hail cabs on the street.

AJ--You obviously have never lived in Brooklyn. You can't just hail cabs anywhere. Usually, you call a car service unless you're near a major road like Flatbush Avenue.
