I'm visiting Chicago, New York and Boston soon with a friend who's also 17. The problem is, most motels/hotels wont check you in unless you're 21. Does anyone know of any motels in those areas that don't care? Do you think we have a chance of finding some motels that will let us stay or are we screwed? I have a credit cad with my name on it, and my theory is that we'll be able to find some place that wont care.

I was convicted of Drink Driving (DR10) a few weeks ago (1st offence) and I was due to go on holiday to Peru and transit via Newark Airport and spend a few days in New York on the way back. I read on the US embassy website that I now needed a visa (if you have ever been convicted or arressted - even if the arrest didn't lead to a charge) and couldn't use the visa waiver form. So I cancelled the holiday. I am now planning to go in November and I am happy to apply for a visa at the US emabssy, but the police check required for the Embassy appointment takes 40 days and the embassy decision takes another 14. So will i have to go through this process every time I want to go to america on a non-immigrant visa? Or are there other visa types that once I have it, I can travel to the US for multiple entries over a lond period (maybe a few years)? I have read about a waiver of ineligibility - what does this allow and who is it for please? I am British and live in the UK.

I've been living in Chicago for a few years and am ready to leave. The neighborhoods here are too segregated and I'm tired of the yuppies taking over with their condos. I like a smaller big city (like 500,000) without all the urban sprawl. Something cheaper, both in housing costs and general income... I prefer to be around working class people, not the suburbanites. Also looking for a good mix of races; no more than 65% white. I'm not into 'nightlife' but enjoy a decent music scene. My boyfriend and I both are looking to start careers in the arts (gallery/museum and art education) so it has to have some sort of art culture going on besides landscape paintings. I'm originally a country girl so it's very important to me that the wilderness not be too far of a drive; however I'm not a hiking/skiing/live outdoors type. We hate hot weather, too. Some cities we've come up with are: Portland, Memphis, Cleveland, etc. Any suggestions?

I absolutely love California. I am from northern Cali and I live in the LA area currently, and honestly, throught my entire life I have lived in many, many places and always come back to the beautiful state of CA. I lived in British Columbia, Canada; I lived in North Carolina and South Carolina and even lived in the Philippines. And I am happy to say that I will probably always want to live in beautiful CA. So why do you love CA?

I find it baffling that so many questions and answers I see on Yahoo say "Buffalo is a dirty industrialist city." While it is true that Buffalo was once a major industrial hub and the 8th largest city in the U.S., I feel like the people who say such unbelievably negative things about Buffalo have never even been here. I've lived here for two years and I love my city - especially it's 19th century architecture (some buildings are by Frank Lloyd Wright) and many museums. We have a great arts and music scene, and truly the weather isn't that bad.

I just don't understand why people from out of town are eager to perpetuate stereotypes that aren't true. Why is this? Why do those who have never stepped foot here feel obligated to put their two cents in?
