It really depend on a lot of factors. Overall I think Texas has a lot more good than bad. Housing, for the most part, is below the national average (though it may be higher in Houston). The job market is very good & as others have said, there is no state income tax. Gas is usually cheaper in Texas than most other states. Overall, the cost of living in Texas is very good (though property taxes are very high as they use that to make up for the lack of a state income tax). The down side is the heat in the summer (most of May,June, July, August & even September is well above 100 with very high humidity (which isnt a big deal if youre coming from a similar climate but could be a real shock to someone who's from the North), the crime rate in Houston is very high & the traffic is awful in all of the cities.

If you can handle the oppressive heat and prefer the simple life and family and friends, might be a good place. Good places for jobs. Environmentally and physically Texas sucks. Flat, boring, and ugly. For some quality of life comes into question. I've lived in both Houston and Dallas. Preferred Houston more than Dallas, maybe because it was on the coast, I dunno. But I would never go back. Dallas I really hated. Business/Family town that's it. Little to do outdoor wise. Plus most Texas cities are having issues with illegal immigration and some of the crime that can be associated with it. Some of these illegals are the worst drivers as well, question whether they even have valid licenses to begin with.

But anyway, live in NC now and love it. Living in Tx can really make you appreciate living around better scenery.

Hey gal, that is sorry to hear u have to move,
Is Texas a good place? That is a nice question, we always wondering is the places are going to be better than the one we have now. Okay I never been to Texas, but I have 2 friends moved to Texas. It is all depend on yourself, because one friend told me it is not good, it is hot and poor city.
Another friend told me it is nice, it is save ( not violent as CA or NY), simple life. Nice school and education!
Over all I think Texas is not a bad place to move, the housing over there is cheaper than Ca. There are a lot farm, if your parents or u like it, it is not hurt to try it out. The mall and market place is far from the house, but it is all nice experience. I am going to visit my Texas friend this summer, I want to learn all that new and interesting experiences.
The school, The education is better ( according my friends), they said the teacher and the school care about about the student and u have to have good behavior and dress up clean everyday ! I think that is all I knew. O~ There are not a lot green place ( I mean Grass) coz it is hot over there, they take rock replace grass most of the place.

Wish u good luck and have a better experiences life in your new HOME.

Our state is prosperous in that we do not have to pay state tax when filing income tax, there is no sales tax on grociers or over the counter medications or prescription. Some jobs are plentiful, and the pay is comparable if not better than some other states. The cost of living is the same as Oklahoma, where I am from. Car tags are cheap here, as I only pay $52.50 for mine, and my car is a 2001 Toyota Camry, and I paid over $300 in Oklahoma. I live in the metro Houston area, and I love it here. I have lived here for 10 years and plan to stay here the rest of my life. It is no hotter or colder here than it is in Oklahoma, but we do have high humidity sometimes. Try to move to the Clear Lake, South Pasadena, Webster, Friendswood, Santa Fe, Nassau Bay, Kema, Dickenson, and League City areas. Try to stay out the area named South Houston.

Texas has a great sort of climatic components. in the panhandle of Texas, the winters are very equivalent to those in the great plains - intense winds, blowing snow - in short, blizzards. The northeast area of Texas is extra reasonable, noticeably because of the fact the climate is moister; you will see very heat summers, with an occasional snow in the iciness, and likewise each and every so often bitterly chilly temperatures. in the crucial factor of the state, it is plenty milder; in basic terms some extremely chilly days (whilst in comparison with Edmonton), a small volume of snow now and then, yet in basic terms adequate for the infants to get out and characteristic relaxing. Austin and factors south it is totally gentle - very virtually in no way any snow, and fairly countless moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. West Texas, in the area of El Paso and the Davis Mountains (confident, Texas has some mountains), has a tendency to be very plenty a wasteland-like environment - warm in the day, chilly at nighttime, and little or no rain and snow. the extreme southern tip of Texas, frequently going on because of the fact the Rio Grande Valley, is gentle all iciness long, with occasional quite warm temperatures in the summertime; it extremely is an area for citrus transforming into, so as that would supply you a concept of the climate. Housing expenses variety particularly from area to area; your perfect guess could be to look at information superhighway sites for papers in numerous components, and notice what homes are going for there. i replaced into born and raised in crucial Texas; if I have been to return (I stay in Washington state now), i might in all probability circulate to the Austin or San Antonio area.

It depends on where you live at....Houston, nice but too crowded and crime rate high....Victoria, very nice....all the smaller towns are pretty ok....Spring Texas is right outside of Houston and it is nice and you are still close enough to all the action.
