Loretta, the USA has only fifty (50) states.

Peurto Rico is an unincorporated territory with Commonwealth status.

For a list of the fifty states:

Loretta, there were some possibilities being considered to add the 51st and 52nd states. As of yet, there are no official statehood selections. However, in the electoral college that is used for voting, Washington, D.C. is considered as one of 51 votes. Also, Puerto Rico was being considered as the 51st state back in the 90's, D.C. came in to consideration for 52nd later on in the 90's- neither of these happened and we still only have 50 states. Hope this helps.
