I am asking in terms of logistics and economics. I will be here for a conference and would like to go into the city for the night. I will have a rental car, but I would prefer not to drive if I don't have to.

My partner has got an opportunity to work in NYC. I was originally quite excited about this and it is also one of my ambitions; however - now we think about it in more detail we are starting to feel nervous/have cold feet. Especially about the working hours that are traditionally much longer in NY. We are also worried family/friends/settling into life there - the normal stuff! Anyone been through this? Any advice on how to make up our minds?

I'd really like to move there but everyone tells me the rent is sky high. How much would a 1-bedroom apartment be per month? Something in between - not luxury but not ghetto. Any feedback appreciated!

All the expressways, parkways, highways will be overcapacity, there will be bumper to bumper accidents. So forget about driving.

Airports will be jammed packed. No MAJOR metropilitan area has been evacuated EXCEPT Houston with Rita, but the NYC metro has over 5 times as many people.

Well, you people hve fun making your plans, I'm safe in central Pennsylvania. You people don't come here, there is already too much traffic. Go to Boston or something.

I am going to New York City this summer, and we are going to do shopping at various places including chinatown.

I was wondering what brands they have, please star the following brands if you have seen knockoff versions in NYC and/or Chinatown

Chanel
Dior
Juicy Couture
Coach
Dolce and Gabbana
Gucci
Fendi
Prada
Louis Vuitton

and could you give me some items they have in each of these brands, like handbags, watches, earrings, necklaces, wallets, wristlets, scarves, shoes, etc.

and then just a general price range of these items in chinatown

THANK you very much!
I am asking just because I want a general idea of how much money to bring.

I want to take Metro North then drive on to Ithaca, NY. Which Metro North stations will allow me to do this without having to take a taxi from the station to the car rental place? My main reason for taking Metro North is to save some money on the car rental. If you have a better suggestion for a cheap car rental, let me know.
