I'm going to assume you are not from the U.S. just by the nature of your question. New York is both a state and a city. The state of New York is located on the East Coast of the United States; East and mostly North of New Jersey; North of Pennsylvania; West of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont. The city of New York, located within the state of New York, is in the Southeastern part of the state.
------------------------------------------------------------------
So if you know where to find it on a regular map, then you should know where it is on an online map. It will still be in the same place, no matter what the map is. Move the map until you over New York and there you go.

Look along the East coast (right side of the map) Then find New Jersey (state) and look right above it (North). It will be listed as New York or New York City but unless you have a map without city names, it is on there. Look south of Connecticut and southeast of New York state.

When you look at a map of America, just imagine it's a bull. New York will be right where the mouth is.

Try the Northern hemisphere! OOOOOh, I forgot - first the Earth. Mind that a map of Middle Earth won't do.

Seriously?? It's New York. Take your map, hold it in front of you and look to the upper right. If you can't find it, you need to take a geography class.
