The Beacon Theater isn't located in Times Square. The Beacon Theater is on Broadway in the 70's on the Upper West Side.

In 1987, Times Square was starting to change for the better. It was really bad in 1977 with prostitutes, drugs, porno houses, fights, and bums sleeping on the sidewalks. By 1987, there were still a few porno houses and prostitutes but not as many as in the 1970s. By the 1990s, all of the seedy element disappeared and Times Square became a safe and friendly environment for families.

Times Sq. was never itself a crime ridden or dangerous intersection. 42d St. West of Times Sq. went into decline starting before WWII & reached its depths in the 60's to 80's. Look for books on NY History for photos. The New York Times has an enormous library of photos.

Rent Midnight Cowboy. It's captures the city perfectly. Wow! I loved those days. It was so cool. We had an idiot Mayor (Dinkins) NYC was So colorful. So gritty.
Wish those days were back. Now it's all squeaky clean with Applebees! and Disney Yuck.

I miss the old Times Square. It had color, it was festive, nobody gave a hoot. It was alive and well. I wish we had those old day back. NY was a lot of fun.

Rudy Giuliani cleaned it up while he was Mayor. It used to be sex shops & topless bars. Do you mean the Beacon Theater? We used to go to concerts there in the 80's.
