well come to new york...
There are many historic places to visit . the most important one is statue of Liberty . Then definently u want to see Ground Zero . Manhattan is itself amazing place to visit . but i suggest not to spend night in central Manhattan . it is an expensive area . commute in NY is not a problem and it itself is a fun . so stay in any other area of NY, like Brooklyn or Queens . and then u go to Manhattan enjoy there as much time u want and then come back .
Good Luck ........and have a good time.

No such thing as a nice place in Manhattan that doesn't cost much money.

I recently got a good price at the Hilton of New York (6th Ave a.k.a. Ave of the Americas), which was $200/night for a room with single king bed. The room was very nice. Also happened to be the same place the Angels of Anaheim were staying while playing the Yankees. Tip is to stay in the city on Friday or Saturday night, rooms in NYC cost more on weekdays because of business travelers. This Hilton is located near 57th and 6th Ave, short distance to Times Square, Central Park, shopping on 5th Ave.

I've stayed in Manhattan a number of times and $200/night is a pretty good price.
