The UWS is for the most part upper middle class, with plenty of families. Generally one of the safest places in the city with plenty of people coming and going at all times. To the north is Morningside Heights/Columbia University and Harlem, to the south is Midtown West/Hell's Kitchen. East is Central Park, west is Riverside Park and the Hudson River. There are several notable venues like the Merkin Concert Hall, Lincoln Center, Beacon Theater, and Symphony Space. UWS also has good food including Brother Jimmy's BBQ, Shun Lee Cafe, Saigon Grill, Big Nick's, Tom's Restaurant (from Seinfeld), and many other restaurants/bars. Rents are expensive but there are still some affordable apartments if you go in as a room share - budget $800-$1200 per month per person, not including utilities.

My cousin lives on the Upper West Side. It's a nice area. Lots of good restaurants and places to shop. Central Park is right nearby so it's very convenient. Lots of museums nearby as well. Rent is high. My cousin pays (I think) over $2K for a SMALL one bedroom apartment that doesn't even have a real kitchen. I would not move to NYC but if I were going to choose an area, that'd probably be it.

i in my view want the better West for 2 significant motives. The portion of the better East element that's on the threshold of crucial Park is extremely costly, and the much less costly portion of the better East element are the factors far from the park. yet on the better West, there are much less costly residences on the threshold of crucial Park, so which you have lots greater suited get admission to to the park. the different reason is that it extremely is quieter and not as busy. you could flow away your house without being overwhelmed with the aid of mobs of persons, and you isn't stored up at nighttime with the aid of noise in case you have a front-dealing with house.

Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. Lots of families, everyone's pretty well-off, and you're close to the park! The Museum of Natural History is there, as well as the Lincoln Center, home to the Metropolitan Opera and NY Ballet.
Lucky you!
