I recently moved to Vancouver, BC and so far like it for the most part. But it is strange in a way I cannot put my finger on. Anyone who lives in the city care to explain?

I have lived outside of Canada for many years teaching English and am not interested in continuing in that field of work. I would like to start taking classes and retrain for another line of work such as urban planning.

Would I be able to find work with only English and minimal French? I don't expect a high powered job in an office but I just need a job to keep body and soul together. I can scrub a toilet!

I'm going to be driving through the Michigan / Ontario border. I want to know if a laptop can be confiscated? Also, what about bringing an external hard drive?? I don't want them either damaged or lost.

I am flying from Toronto to Edmonton for about 5 days with Air Canada. Should I buy travel insurance - medical and/or cancellation insurance? I am 20 years old, and I am wondering if it is necessary if I am staying in Canada. I have never flown before so I was wondering if anyone had any advice. Thanks :)

I am from Sacramento, CA and right now and have been thinking about moving to Vancouver, BC. I hear that it is very clean and very gay friendly. I had a job interview in Los Angeles and if I don't get the job, I want to relocate somewhere different. So far I have been thinking about Chicago and New York.. but I like mountains and forest. I know it gets cold up north, but that doesn't bother me. How is the gay scene like? How is the job market like? Its is expensive to live there? I am a 29 year old latin male who speaks Spanish and Italian and would love to make friends who speak both, especially Italian since I need to practice. And if you guys know of any job possibilities for me up there or roommates even- by all means let me know. Vancouver seems like a fun town. And another issue would be, would it be easier to become a citizen or legal resident?? The process easy?? Thanks...

Seems we have a lot of thrill-seekers--one trying to top the next guy. I saw footage the other day of people in barrels going over the Niagara Falls and wondered why no one does it anymore? When was the last time? or Last time someone was successful?

I am going to be moving to Vancouver, British Columbia possibly in about two years and just had some general questions. What are some clean, safe, neighbourhoods that I should look into for living options? What about inner-ring suburbs that are easily accessed by car or public transportation? Any unsafe neighbourhoods to avoid? How is the theater scene there? This is just the start of my research, and any insight would prove helpful!

Is it really necessary to have a birth certificate in addition to photo ID while crossing the border?

The reason being that my boyfriend and his father are coming to visit, from Ohio (US) to Ontario (Canada), and in order to cross the border I've read on various websites that all of the passengers require a birth certificate and a drivers license. My boyfriend does not currently have his birth certificate with him as he regularly resides in Kansas. (His parents are no longer together). So his birth certificate is unaccessible.

So!! To make a long question short: can he still make it through without a birth certificate? Will just his drivers license suffice?

He's getting pretty anxious, and although I personally think he'll get through just fine - I think some alternative opinions will help ease his worries.

Thanks!
