British Colony? Please do NOT come to Canada, spend your vacation getting an education instead.
Canada is a beautiful country but its best that people such as you who believe we are "your Colonists" not come here - you might say something stupid to Canadians, like call us a "British Colony"?
A friend of mine married a lovely woman from Britian, they met while back packing in Europe, he went to England to meet her family and he said the ignorance about Canada was just appalling -
Her mother said IN FRENCH to her daughter in front of him "darling do you think its safe to move to the colonies? what about indians and the conveniences you are used to living with?"
What do you people learn in school? Did you graduate in the 1800's?

Your missing one word: "former" British colony. We have been a dominion of the British empire, but a separate run country since 1867. In 1982, we finally were granted full independence when the queen agreed that she should not need to provide ultimate approval in our affairs any longer.
However, we still honour our heritage, with the queen still present on our money, we still have a governor-general, and the royal family still warmly welcomed at any and all events.
As for making a journey here from the UK, I think that if you can tolerate the 7-8 hr flight to get here, you will thoroughly enjoy it. Even today, we are still a wide-open rugged country, whether it is hiking in the Laurentians, checking the BC forests, having a boat cruise and seafood in the Maritimes, or joining a cattle drive on the prairies.

A trip to Canada is very much worth the effort. There are many places in Canada to see, we are a large nation, with a diverse population and land.

Oh, by the way...Canada is no longer a colony of Britain. We are an independent country. You might want to remember that if you visit......the locals can be some what touchy about that.
Hope you come & have a great time!

Canada is a beautiful Nation. Vancouver is really nice.. heck British Columbia is so nice.. Alberta and the Praries are a unique experience. The partying begins in Toronto, Ontario. Quebec is glorious.. Coming to Canada , one must visit the Founding FRENCH part as well. The Maritimes are pretty cool. If your looking for a city tour, go to Toronto, drive to Montreal and Quebec City... many buses available.
But CANADA is independent.

Read your profile John and being English is no excuse for being stupid. We have been an independent Nation since 1867, you may want to update your history books, or open it.. How's it feel being part of a second rate "Superpower"? Add some humility to your smugness, you'll be better for it. Should I insult you back and ask whether visiting the Roman colony of England is worth visiting ? By the way, you are welcome for our help during the last century or so...

British colony of......muahahahahaha.
For an English guy you sure aren't very well informed of your country's "colonies". Maybe a little stroll in the British colony of India would be better for you.
