The health care in Canada isn't as great as you may think. Sure it's free for everyone, but ask anyone in Canada with a serious illness such as cancer why they want to go to the US for treatment. I'll tell you why, it's because people are dying in Canada on waiting lists to see specialists and get the proper treatment. Big government is not the answer to everything. The US health care system isn't perfect by any means but if you need health care and are unable to pay, there are programs such as medicare and medicaid. There are also free clinics in all major cities. People complain that so many aren't covered and can't get treatment. That's a bunch of bull. They just don't know were to look and need to go to their local social services office. They can get all the assistance they need there. That's what we all pay taxes for. To pay for feeding, clothing, housing, and medical for all those who choose to stay home and not work for a living.

Canada is gay the US isn't. Or atleast thats what most people would say. The primary differences are in government, for instance Canada has free healthcare whereas the US at least half of its population doesn't have any insurance coverage at all or if they do they are under insured. Also the US has a president whereas Canada has a prime minister. Canadians are much nicer compared to Americans and Canadians tend to know more about American politics that the Americans know about Canadian politics and American politics combined.

Canada is a middle class society, on the whole, having far less wealth than the US, but less extreme poverty as well.

Of course, we pay a ridiculous amount of taxes. This keeps us from being very wealthy but also allows for a welfare system to house and feed low income people and families, and a healthcare system that provides healthcare to all citizens equally without having to have money to pay for it.

I don't care what answer you read on this list, please refrain from taking the opinions of people who don't live in each country seriously. Asking someone who doesn't live somewhere to describe it is fallacy. And, based on some of the ridiculous and shallow comments I've read, quite a few of the answers come from people who've never been anywhere but their own country.

Please beware of people stupid enough to believe stereotypes absolutely.

French is not the official language in Canada, Canada has two official languages, English and French.

French is spoken in Quebec, pretty must all the rest of Canada speaks English as their language.

We take French in school, Americans take Spanish.

Canada is bigger than the US.

And yes our Health Care system stinks big time. Everyone in Canada gets the same treatment as the uninsured in the US do. Get smart, start petitioning your Government now in the US to stop them from adopting a Universal Health Care system based on the one we have in Canada.

In the US there is no gender inequality in Health Care, there is in Canada.

Men receive things like defibulators TWICE as often as women do. There are NO women health specialists in Canada. Men's health issues are taken more seriously and men are twice as likely to be referred to a specialist then women are. Men are twice as likely to receive disability pensions, and workers compensation benefits than women are.

Canada's social services are worse than the US's are. Canada has the lowest benefits for disabled and unemployed people of any first world country.

ok rant over, just agreeing with another poster here

Canada is not as densely populated as the US. The US has more factories than Canada has.

The US has nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, Canada doesnt.

The US has a war based economy, Canada doesnt, our economy is based on our resources.

Our military is much smaller and less modern that yours is.

Canada has the Snow Birds, the US has the Blue Angels.

Movie stars are seen as Presidential candidates in the US. Canada sees lawyers as good candidates for Prime Minister, movie stars in Canada dont run for Political office.

The US has two political parties, the Democrats and the Republicans - does anyone know how many Canada has?

The US has a different election process, we go by who got the most votes in Canada LOL (sorry couldnt resist).

In Canada a candidate for PM can have almost 75% of the country NOT vote for him and still "win" the office (legally)

Canada has coloured money, and the loonie and toonie. US money is all blah green ..

Canada was built by hard working immigrants, the US was mainly built by slave labour. (no insult intended, its history nothing more ..)

Both countries interred Japanese citizens during the second world war. Both countries have a racist history. Canada discriminated against and abused Asians, the US blacks.

Canada has gun control laws. The US really doesnt.

Canadians are historically more likely to kill someone with a knife, Americans prefer guns.

Both countries like to tell the world they are better than anyone else and know the best way to do things.

A Liberal political party in the US would be the Democrats, which we would call "left wing". Liberals in Canada are not "left wing" they are conservative but not as convervative as the conservatives - Canada has more than one conservative thinking Political party, the US has one, Canada has more than one Liberal thinking party, the US has one.
Are you confused now? I know I am ......

We call it a grocery bag, you call it a sack, we call it pop, you call it soda, we say fish and chips for fish and fries, chips means potato chips in a bag in the US, some of us still say serviette, Americans say napkin as do most younger Cdns now

Canadians say "eh" a lot.

Americans believe their drug problems come from Canada, we believe it comes from the US (and BC)

Canada is multi-cultural while the US believes in a "melting pot" and assimilation

Canadians think they are better than Americans, Americans think they are better than Canadians.

Canada has more National Parks and more protected land areas than the US does.

The US encourages capitalism, Canada doesnt. Not for the individual.

The CFL plays on a bigger field than the NFL does. The CFL has three downs. CFL players arent built like refrigerators, The NFL has set receivers, CFL doesnt. CFL is more of a running game than the NFL is.

Favourite sport in Canada is hockey, its football in the US

We use metric measurement, the US doesnt

Canadians pay more for gas than Americans do

We are Canadian. They are American.

You can buy a teeshirt that explains how and why we are not American. I've never seen one denying Canadian status.
