No. Especially if you get one from a location where they tend to have more uses like that. But you have to make sure you tell them you are crossing the border with it. That's the law.

And ask for a weekly rate.

I don't believe that there are any extra fees to drive a rental car from the US into Canada. When you make your car reservations, just be sure to mention it. (My husband and I have done this before and didn't have any extra fees.)

One very important thing about getting a rental car and driving it into Canada, is you need to check with your auto insurance company. Canada does not accept US auto insurance cards. Just be sure to call your auto insurance company and request these special cards (they should be free of charge).

There are no additional fees unless you are leaving the car in Canada (one way driving trip). However, most car rental companies have strict no border crossing rules. Be upfront with with the rental company when calling them about your intention.

Yes, rental companies will charge an extra fee. Some won't let you leave the country.

I rented a Hertz in Buffalo and drove to Toronto...no extra fees and their rate was the best. check 3 or 4 companies and compare.

I've rented Nationwide & Enterprise & crossed the US border no problem. Stick to a larger company and make sure they can border cross.
