I would like to call a friend from US and I got this number from my friend's brother. I tried to call. I am not sure whether is my problem or if the number is not valid. I am not even sure if I am calling a home phone or a cell phone. The number I got is 81-9050037426.
So there are 10 numbers. Is it right? Are you able to tell me whether it's a home phone number or a cell? Thanks!

some people say, the japanese people are polite, well-mannered, tend to be silent etc. But others say they are often nonexpressive (make you feel nothing bad), insincere (theyr word is different from their heart), dont look straight, very stubborn in their mind, and if you are a foreigner, although you wont feel, they can never accept you from the heart. In all they will show very good behavious outwardly but in their heart it is very different. Anyone have any experience or knowledge about it. If the heart and word are different its very dangerous -- specially for foreigners who mightnot understand their language... any impression.. opinion

I heard that the Japanese does not really like getting into relationships with foreigners... is this true? I also heard that when it comes to marriage, Japanese families object having a foreigner marrying into their family... or it is only acceptable when a Japanese man or woman fails to marry in their young age so they just marry anyone because they are already old? Can anyone clear this up? What is the TRUTH behind this reputation of the Japanese? Thanks!

run a business in Japan if you are American? I am thinking of becoming a fashion designer. My fashion would be mostly Gothic Lolita and the sort and I would love to have my company located on Harajuku street. I'm not sure if that is acceptable in Japan, does anyone know?

Have any women here ever worked as either a hostess or waitress at a well-known bar or club in Japan?

If you could share your experience - learned lessons, suggestions and tips, difficulties, positives/highlights and a little bit about your position and what it entitled, that would be appreciated.

Thank you. :)

I've been interested for years on how to speak Japanese. I'm sick of the silly little dubbed animes and I don't like reading all the time. So does anyone know any place online that I can learn Japanese for free.

Is it possible? What is required? Could, for instance, someone who has legally stayed in Japan for several years on a work permit, apply for permanent residency?

Oddly, I haven't heard too many stories of permanent residency in Japan. Perhaps that's only because I come from a relatively Japanophobic Chinese family that wants little to do with people who've settled in Japan. I, on the other hand, am rather interested in Japan and curious about the opportunities and life it might have to offer.

Those stories that I HAVE heard of settlement in Japan, usually involve marriage. Indeed, this is true of our two resident foreign-born Japanese on Yahoo Answers: Cyn and Yozora.

So, if someone would like to migrate *permanently* to Japan, is there any way to go about it ,short of seeking a Japanese boyfriend and coercing the poor chap into marriage? ( :-p at Cyn and Yozora, heeheehee ^_~)

We're going to Japan next year for two weeks and are putting together an intinerary of places to go, things to see. Suggestions of something/somewhere not to be missed would be helpful (around the Tokyo/Kyoto areas). Also we will be taking our (then 4 year old) daughter with us, so places we could go with her would be great also. Thanks.

I'm heading there with two mates (were are all guys) and we're looking for a place to stay with fun, laid-back nightlife (locals not expats) that we can walk to and a bit of culture as well. Can you get both? I thought about Shinjuko, but I think the nightlife scene is'nt really geared towards straight guys, is it? And what about Shibuya? Would you want to stay there or just go out there? Not sure if you want to be based in Roppongi.

Anyway, never been before so only going on the odd thign i've read.

THanks v v much in advance for any advice.
