Japan is great! I have lived here for over 2 years and I love it.
Fun? Tokyo is crazy. Lots to do. Shopping, partying, touring--Go to the Tokyo Tower, Emperor's Palace, Meiji park, the Bay, maybe even a baseball game or a sumo match.

My favorite big cities are Sapporo and Fukuoka because they are unique. They are big but also have their own culture. They also have a lot of near by nature sites.
Nara is cool because there is a deer park. Thousands of deer roam this historical city.
Hiroshima is a city dedicated to peace. Check out the peace museum.

Japan is fantastic. I have been there many times on business trips.
You can visit Tokyo, an ultra-modern city. Or you can go to the countryside and see traditional family farms. There are also lovely temples and shrines.
Some places I like:

There are student exchange programs that let you go to Japan for the summer. Look at http://www.yfu.org/

I was there in 1967 to 1969 and I really loved it there. I was military so I went to alot of the clubs also played slots there. I seen so many singers at the clubs there for free; o c Smith; Aretha Franklin; Lionel Hampton; the guy that sings tiny bubbles. Platters; Jeanie Riley and much more. The country is beautiful. You`d probably find alot of hot spots in Tokyo now. We then called the malls ginsa`s

Japan is amazing. I went there last summer and loved it. You definitely should go if you have the chance. I would recommend Kyoto and Tokyo to you, the stores alone are amazing. The malls are huge, at least 10 stories high.
Lots of outdoor bazaars, its pretty amazing.
I actually stayed with a Japanese family for a portion of my trip, so it was pretty authentic!

I go to Japan 3-4 times a year. It is expensive and too many people. China is a much better place to visit.
