We're going to Japan next year for two weeks and are putting together an intinerary of places to go, things to see. Suggestions of something/somewhere not to be missed would be helpful (around the Tokyo/Kyoto areas). Also we will be taking our (then 4 year old) daughter with us, so places we could go with her would be great also. Thanks.

Yeah some people have already said, in Tokyo go to Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza, the Emperial Palace, Meiji Park, Tokyo Tower, and I think it would be nice to just walk around. Look at all the people.

In Kyoto, I loved Kinkakuji. It is the Golden Pavilion. The Golden Temple. There are so many great temples in Kyoto. Nijo castle is also great.

Make sure to get a city map in English from Tokyo Station and Kyoto Station before you head out and tour. If you don't mind taking a short train ride, I recommend going to Nara! Lots of beautiful temples there too, and there are thousands of deer who roam freely in parks and around the city. You can pet and feed them.

Good luck and have fun!

In the Tokyo area you could try the Disneyland or the DisneySea (many people say the latter is better). Or the National Children's Castle (Kodomo no Shiro) which has a much cheaper entrance fee and puppet shows, origami presentations, pool, music room and lots of games. You could also visit Meiji-jingu, Asakusa, Tokyo Tower, Shibuya and Shinjuku, Odaiba, the Imperial Palace.

Kyoto has many temples, probably the best known are the Kinkaku-ji and Kiyomizu-dera. Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka are also very enjoyable strolls. There is an Imperial Palace in Kyoto as well.

Have a great trip!

I'm not from there but I was there for almost 2 weeks. I would highly recommend Puroland Hello Kitty theme park. Puroland is in Tama, about 2 hours or less from Tokyo and is accessed by rail. Your daughter will love it.
