I'm Japanese. I've never heard asahi or himawari as a Japanese name.

Asahi means morning sun or rising sun, Himawari means sunflower.

I think that giving them to children is available. Both of them are something good.

Asahi is the name of a beer and Himawari means Sunflower. I've never heard of either of them being used for a name.

I know a girl named Himawari (sunflower) but never heard of someone named Asahi (the morning sun). I also know a girl named Tanpopo (dandelion). Very unusual name, indeed.

Asahi can be a girl's name, but himawari would only be a japanese whore's name.

I suppose they could be used as names.
Don't know anyone who's named that way but I think they'd be both great names for a girl.
I especially like Himawari.

And as everyone already mentioned, Asahi means morning sun or Sun rise. And Himawari means sun flower.

yes, they can be Japanese surnames. Asahi(あさひ) can be both boys and girls name. Himawari(向日葵) is name for a girl, but this is rare. As you can see, Himawari is not very easy to write!lol

I've never seen either name used before on a person, and I will also chime in that Asahi is a brand of beer.

Asahi is a brand of Japanese beer.

There's also a city in northern Japan called Asahikawa. "Kawa" means river, but I don't know what the "Asahi" in the city's name means.

Himawari means sunflower ... I've never heard of it being used as a person's name.

I lived in Nagano in Japan for 6 years ...
