I'm heading there with two mates (were are all guys) and we're looking for a place to stay with fun, laid-back nightlife (locals not expats) that we can walk to and a bit of culture as well. Can you get both? I thought about Shinjuko, but I think the nightlife scene is'nt really geared towards straight guys, is it? And what about Shibuya? Would you want to stay there or just go out there? Not sure if you want to be based in Roppongi.

Anyway, never been before so only going on the odd thign i've read.

THanks v v much in advance for any advice.

Tokyo is a bustling city that never sleeps. Roppongi is the foreigner hangout. Is that what you want?? If yes, then go there, if not, then go somewhere else. Shibuya and Shinjuku are both cool. Nice nightlife and atmosphere. Also some foreigners but not as many as Roppongi. Ginza is good. I love living in Japan but I live in Koriyama, which is North of Tokyo, so I don't know the specifics. I'll be there for a few days next week for my vacation. I'll let ya know if I find anything cool.

Any place would be great. Roppongi is where all the nightlife is although Shibuya would be a good rival. The Yamanote line does NOT pass by Roppongi so you would have to use a different train system. I highly recommend you stay close to a Yamanote station so that you can have full access to Tokyo and it's surrounding areas. Be sure that you have your Japan Rail pass. It comes out very handy and saves you TONS of money.

In a few weeks?
Hurry up. Hotels in Tokyo get full easily, especially nice hotels.
Repeat visitors start to book 1 month before at least to keep their favorites hotels.

Both Shinjuku and Shinuya are ok, You can move to Roppongi from either towns.

Check past questions.

for a reason you have so much fun in your mind and spending time with friends..yes true that most hotels are booked..try gaijin house where you can stay and meet lots of people...Roppongi is nice place..many Language Instructors or businessmen go there too because of Lost in Translation and karaoke are open if you missed the train..you can stay and have fun at karaoke box till the next first trip..there are lots of buffet restaurant around Roppongi.and shinjuku and shibuya is crowded because most students are around now everywhere meeting friends and having fun ..summer vacation ..I know backpackers place where you can stay with friends..I am trying to find out that too so next time I could stay for experience.. in Japan nightlife is for everyone...young and old..all walks of life after the stress at schools exam and jobs. As my experience //Roppongi is not very bad..lots of police box so it is safe when you are traveling even if you are woman but shinjuku. not sure..tours and cruises are busy too, waiting online to get reservations..not bad if you have less budget than spending going around you dont know where you going, try Asakusa, bit of culture ..and souvenirs to take you home. get a cheap train ticket for one day and visit Akihabara..a recommended place for visiting tokyo.
Welcome ..

Well, the best thing to do is to make reservations before you go there, Japanese Hotels almost fully booked this time of the year. There are other possibilities, Traditional Japanese Hotels “Ryokan”, Discount Business Hotels and Weekly Mansions.
Weekly Mansions are new accommodation system in Japan, your payment based on how many weeks you will stay at these Weekly Mansions, at least you have to book for two or three weeks, reservations for few days are not accepted, but these Weekly Mansions are lot cheaper than other accommodations, but there is no room service, no receptions, in each apartment there is washing machine, and small kitchen with Broad Brand Internet connection “Free of Charge” with TV. I tried Weekly Mansions twice, and it was great and cheap, almost 3500 Yen/day.
Also, if you wish to visit other places out of Tokyo, go for Japan Rail Pass.
Good luck

Shinjuku has every type of joint, it's just the 2-chome neighborhood where they are light in their loafers. Shibuya is fine to stay or party. Nowadays there are happening clubs even in the less fashionable parts of town like Ikebukuro, so it's all good.

nicely, you're able to need in basic terms pray for individuals in manhattan. if your in Mass, what could you be frightened of? the way I heard it became the Charles Bolden, a first-rate Engineer at NASA became asked by a Journalist what we would desire to continuously do if a good sized asteroid have been headed in the direction of manhattan. He instructed the Journalist that we would desire to continuously pray. For the checklist, (and that i could think of the modern-day effect in Russia could have made this obtrusive) an asteroid effect does not immediately advise an apocalypse.
