We will be a mid to late 20's family with one kid and one dog relocating from ft. benning, ga to LA area. Wife is an accountant, I will seeking employment with local law enforcement, depending on where we end up. Looking for a place that is relatively safe, good schools, house prices that match our jobs backyard would nice. If a person was travelling there for a year on a working holiday visa what is the best way of dealing with it.

Would it be a good idea to open a bank account in OZ when you get there then transfer all of your saved money from your UK bank account to the AUS bank account?

How easy is it to open a bank account in OZ if you are a UK citizen just travelling there?

Anyone else done this and if so how did you deal with the money side of things?

The summer has come and we do not have any plans for vacationing!! We were considering the Berkshires, but we are afraid that there would not be enough to do there to fill a week. In the past we have enjoyed vacationing in Glouster, MA, Kennebunkport, ME, Burlington, VT, San Francisco and many others. We are looking for somewhere to go that is family friendly, has culture, shopping, things to do such as events and museums and possible on the coast. Please help!! We need suggestions, anything you can think of!! Even just somewhere you may have gone that you enjoyed. If you have been there before could you please recommend an affordable, clean hotel. we are looking for a family (small kids) friendly place, where food is provided as well like Club Med. With small children, we just want a nice place to stay, walk around, maybe some fun things to do on the resort like swimming, miniture golfing, etc. Not into staying in line for hours (so not parks, zoos, etc). Anywhere within 1-2 hours of drive from Los Angeles is OK.

I will be staying at the NYC Millenium Hilton in August in a corner suite on one of the high floors.
