There are several places where I would love to live for some time. Most places on my list are cities, not countries. And not everywhere is exactly free, with fair elections and reliable bureaucracy and police, etc.

I have a pretty good picture of what living costs in all of these, I know people who live/have lived in each of these, and we've visited there.

At the moment we do live abroad, and we don't really like it where we are now. So we are trying to figure out where to go next. There are so many things to consider: employment, safety, quality of schools, quality of life. Today, for you, I have set practicalities aside. Sadly because of questions of employment my dream is probably not going to come true. But I am going to visit there as often as possible!

Here goes, my list:

Rome - nowhere else in western world can you get such coffee! And everybody there flirts all the time, and the ancient neighbourhoods are incredibly beautiful

Bangkok - An exotic metropol, friendly people, relatively clean

New York - culture, athmosphere

Helsinki or Stockholm for archipelago, trendy young people

But my 1. choice would be Andalusia, Spain. (Maybe Sevilla.)
It is beautiful, and flamenco is from there. People are lovely.
Thank you for asking this! I was just yesterday frasing something pretty much same (although I would have let people choose any country ; )) but did not get it ready to post. So you have saved me 5 points ; ) I've given you a star for that.
